Hi, I'm fairly new to Joomla (since Jan. 1st) and totally new to Kunena. Though I completely understand the principles of php and mysql, I am not versed enough to create a script to migrate from VB 3.8 to Kunena. So I am interesting in anyone who has successfully done this.

But I have a few questions. My VB database is about 160mb and is not attached to my Joomla install. Is the migration something that happens on the server side "behind the scenes" on my hosted account, or will I need to manually backup both databases and do the transfer on my computer? (that really would probably be answered by whoever wrote the script to do it, huh?)

Second...should I wait for the next version of Kunena which, from what I read, will be a very different version from 1.0.8, even in the tables that it creates? (though, again, I am sure you guys have the upgrade figured out?)

Ha. It seems as though I am more looking for solid direction that simple questions answered. Any help is appreciated!

I am integrating JomSocial as well.

Jon

No one has created such a script yet. I'm not even sure there is one to go from VB to FireBoard upon which you could upgrade.

As for upgrading in the future it has always been next to painless. However when the 1.5 native version drops that will be a different story.

We love stars on the Joomla Extension Directory . :-)

Yea that is what I was thinking. With VB I am not even looking for a complex migration. My primary interest is in getting the posts over and associating them with my current users.

Thus far I have connected VB with Joomla through JFusion. So my users are already synced. I really just need to figure out migrating the messages.

Any thoughts or directions?

You need to know VBulletin database structure for messages. After that it's just some manual work (and some knowledge from Kunena).

if your users has been migrated, you can create a php algorimth to associate userid with incremental sums or base sum with messages
