Question Convert (migrate) phpNuke to Joomla 1.5 + Kunena

15 years 4 months ago - 15 years 4 months ago #1 by Kibosh
Now because a lot of people have helped me, I will share now some files I already found on the net and one I created myself. Use them at your own risk because I'm a n00b also and I can't help you. Be sure to backup everything before trying or even better try it first on a local server.

The files attached aren't perfect!!!! The reason I post these is maybe they can be used as base to create a great script by some expert.

I'm working on a conversion for our clan site www.outcast.be (It still is phpNuke because our templates aren't finished yet and we are missing some important functions in Kunena).
This site runs now with phpNuke and a BBtoNuke forum. We also have done some mods and installed extra options in the nuke site like ldReviews etc...

Everything I did was on a single database.
Some files have a read me or need to be adapted with your database info.

Versions used software
BBtoNuke Forum v2.0.22
phpBB v2.0.23
Fireboard v1.0.5RC2
Kunena v1.0.7b
Joomla v1.5.9

Convert Forums:
  1. Install Joomla, FIREBOARD and phpBB2 to your site.
  2. Convert from BBtoNuke to a phpBB2 forum with the script conv_nuke_v8.
  3. Now we convert from phpBB2 to Fireboard (yes, fireboard and not Kunena) with the file phpbb2fb
  4. Remove Fireboard and install Kunena

Convert Content:
For this I created a script myself. On our site we have the module ldReviews running in Nuke. So if you don't use this, just remove that part in the script.
The script will create a news section in Joomla and the transfer all news topics and articles into that section.
Then a content section is created and all Nuke content is transfered into that.
For us it will create also a Reviews section and move it into here.
Then the weblinks are transfered.
Because I didn't find yet a good looking downloads module for Joomla I didn't create anything for this.

There still are a lot off manual actions afterwards in Joomla itself but like I've said I'm a n00b and created this script myself so don't expect miracles.

Bugs I discovered
In my script "Conv_Nuke_Joomla2" there are a lot off bugs but it works for me, you'll have to check for yourself. For example: Page breaks should be changed manually for now or someone improves the script. We haven't a large site so for me this isn't a problem.
The script BBtoNuke to phpBB2 "conv_nuke_v8" works very fine
The script for phpBB2 to FB works also rather good but there are some problems:
  • It creates a thread with id 1 where the icon is wrong when viewed
  • the bb code isn't converted so lists etc don't look like it should. But I guess this is very difficult to get right

The reason we have choosen for Joomla and Kunena is because it is simple. Kunena still needs a lot of work and hopefully the updates come soon because our new templates are almost finished (we just need to change the icons). Also I like Kunena because the templates are easy to adjust. Here I can read and understand what is what in the css files. With phpBB3 it is just to difficult and also the bridges aren't yet what they should be. So with Kunena a n00b like myself can adjust the template to fit the Joomla template. With phpBB it is impossible for me.

What we are still missing which is important is private messaging, the ability when you delete a thread the option to move all topics to another thread, and also the ability to add extra user fields in the profile for our xFire module.

When you run into trouble, I probably can't help you!!!!

@creators of Kunena. I've read you are going to change the template system? Please keep it simple like it is now or at least write a lot off comments in the css files so anyone can understand what is what.

@others: What is the best system to have private messaging together with Kunena?
