SEARCH.. Doesn't was created by Nemo10
With the latest J & K versions the Search function is doing nothing.

That is, in the Search Topics advanced tab it does display the search form but when activated it just goes straight to an empty page with no sign of any activity at all. Same with the Quick Search.

Turning debug on shows no errors.

I've rebuilt the Search function in the K menu but still nothing.

Oh for a neat solution...

Please check the menu item "Search". It seems, you have selected Parent Item = Recent Topics. Should be "Forum"

Important! Always create a backup before you make any changes to your website!

Ah..yes..my error there..

However it doesn't solve the non-result Search problem.

From the front end a Guest can only see 3 tabs but Search is one of them. If you try it now you will see what I'm saying about an empty screen with no activity. Main site

The strange thing is that I also have this installation running on a test site and in every way I can see the Search parameters are identical. yet, in the main everyday site the problem persist yet on the test site it works perfectly.

The other factor is that these same search hangups (you have to go back a screen in your browser to get out of it) occurred some months ago before we took the everyday site up to K5, so whatever it is is not K5 specific.

Both the test and main sites were from the original K4 main installation and the only changes I've made at either those I've had from you or 810 on this support forum (mostly to do with the Kunena menu tabs) and my own efforts to test various things out along the way since K 5.XX was implemented.

For now please just check Test site (test site) and use Search

then Main site and do the same.

When logged in on either site a user can see the Quick Search window and use it but even then if you try to read a post from the result it also goes nowhere.

Maybe best if I PM you some access info as this problem is the only major one in the slow climb up into a fully functional K5 installation.

Oh, I can't just clone the Test site over to the Main site as the user and postings data are a month out of date on the test site.

Oh for a neat solution...

Rich

Is it possible for me to remove the search module then replace it with a fresh download.?

If so, how do I go about it? (I'll make a full backup before I do it).

I'm wanting to try that since Search works better on my test site (same version of J & K, it is only 8 weeks older than the working site so everything SHOULD be more or less the same, but obviously not.

For instance, using Quick Search it takes you to the full search page and displays the results, but when you click on any post header that's when it goes to a blank screen and does nothing.
Staring the search for the full search screen will produce just the blank screen.

Oh for a neat solution...

on your main site, you have some broken files. What you can do is :

1) backup first
2) remove kunena by joomla manage (only) files will be removed
3) Check on your ftp the kunena dir are deleted:
administrator/components/com_kunena
components/com_kunena
libraries/kunena
4) Clean cache
5) Set the settings again.
6) Then it should work again

Well that did work, on the test site (which is just a 6 week older version on the main site) but it doesn't on the Main site, the one that really matters.
