Question Session cookie lifetime?

Hi all.

My users are complaining that they have to log in again after only some days. So I'm searching for the setting regarding the session cookie lifetime. Is this something I have to set in Kunena? Or Joomla? Or somewhere else?

Any hint is much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Tom

It is not the session but remember me option. Or browser setting from your users.

Oh yes, you are right. Any hint where I can set the timeout for the "remember me" option?

As far as I know Remember me is 2 months, so that should be enough I suppose?

Yes, it should be enough, but in fact it isn't. I have to log on again after a couple of days, even if I checked the "Remember me" check box. Also my users complain about this, regardless of the browser or OS they use.

Today it happened again. The last time I logged in was on monday. I checked that the "joomla_remember_me_..." cookie was set and valid for two months. Today I was forced to log in again, "joomla_remember_me_..." cookie was vanished. So what I'm trying to find out is why this cookie disappeared. Is this an issue of Joomla or the browser? Any idea?

hello,
don't know which web browser you are using
but it may be that you sometimes clean up your PC/laptop?
But could it also be that you are using a cookie extension?
Then you can often find the setting for the number of days the cookie can exist.
Or take a look at the Joomla Plugins: Authentication - Cookie
that also says a number of days

Hi Leen.

Thanks a lot for your fast reply. Please find my answers below

don't know which web browser you are using
It happens with several Browsers on different platforms (PC, mobile Devices) according to my users. I witnessed this behaviour on Chrome, Edge and Firefox.

but it may be that you sometimes clean up your PC/laptop?

No, Auto-delete of the cookies (and temporary data) is disabled

But could it also be that you are using a cookie extension?

Nope, no such extensions installed

Or take a look at the Joomla Plugins: Authentication - Cookie
that also says a number of days

Plugin is enabled and a session lifetime of 60 days is set, which is default. But I think it is not the Authentication cookie that we are looking for, but the "System - Remember Me" cookie and plugin. This plugin is also enabled, but has no values to configure.

Is your site up to date? There was a bug when you logged in via Kunena. But this should already be fixed. github.com/Kunena/Kunena-Forum/issues/9602

I don't think that this is exactly the same issue. The issue that was fixed in december was that no "remember_me cookie" was set. The issue that me and my users witnessed was that the remember_me cookie was set correctly, but it disappeared after one or two weeks.

Unfortunately my users can not reproduce it anymore, because I quit my site, disabled all my users and blocked the creation of new accounts. But I left my own account enabled, so I will try to reproduce it with different browsers.
