so hypothetically, if there's only 1 change that fixes this issue, I can resolve my problem by performing the changes here?

It's not a hypothetical; you need to replace the file in Kunena before you can install any other template in K 4.0.5.

there are 2 options:

1) change the lines as github.com/Kunena/Kunena-Forum/pull/3436/files

or

2) Or revert this change: github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/pull/7814/files
So remove "$explodedName ="

A better option would be to fix the problem and release a new version, in my opinion. When will this be done?

I couldn't agree more, :woohoo: I'm not a developer and I will have to hire a freelancer to make this fix...will take time and cost money

It makes much more sense that the manufacture would fix their product and publish the updates considering this is a major flaw. Not allowing the installation of templates made for this version is embarrassing to say the least.

Looking forward to new version, go Kunena dev team, go! And thank you!

The new package seems to be a good stable version. We are doing the finals tests.
