Description:
Kunena has an IP Address Tracking feature.
It uses whois.domaintools.com services to provide Geo Locations.

Issue:
whois.domaintools.com now requires a captcha, this is a very time consuming task when you have to make more than 50 queries per day.

Possible solutions:
1. Change the provider, use an existing alternative solution
2. Create a new platform,(Kunena team is the owner), this will generate more traffic to your website, also you can put some ads in that page.
3. Contact the webmasters from whois.domaintools.com and ask them to remove such restriction when a condition is given.

Hello,

Thanks for pointing the issue

Do-you know others providers which provide the same service without captcha ?

Sure, here are a couple (They are listed in the same order as I recommend):

1. www.iplocation.net/
2. myip.ms/info/whois/
3. www.maxmind.com/en/geoip-demo
4. centralops.net/co/
5. www.ipligence.com/geolocation

Note: Maybe someone else can help to improve this list and add more reliable options.

Regards,

I had in mind to use an API like this one : www.ipinfodb.com/ip_location_api.php , i don't know if it's reliable. Then when you click on the IP on the bottom of message instead of redirecting to an another it will display a modal box by quering the site given above and display info on the modal

Even better.
This kind of change is what people often call "improvement".
Thanks in advance for paying attention to my complaint.

I will implement this feature in Kunena 5.0 because Kunena 4.0 doesn't receive news features, you will have a new setting in Kunena configuration to enter the API key

Is there a way to use a generic API key for every kunena installation?
I think it is better to keep the process transparent (Easy) for everyone

Also, I see this message in the website ipinfodb:
Declare which IP address used to connect to API gateway. We are going to restrict connection by IP address.
This could be a problem when people move from hosting company and/or have Dynamic IP address.

It's not possible to use a generic API key for all Kunena installation, the only thing i can do it's let by default the www.iplocation.net and with a setting enable usage of API

I have found a similar service : db-ip.com/api/ but it's need too an API key in order to work, it doesn't restrict by IP address for people sending API requests

I agree with this, I think everybody will be happy with these two options:
People who prefer the easy way
And
People who prefer the complex way
