Hey guys!

Ill start by saying, I am far from a web admin, or a joomla expert. I dont know much, so any help here is appreciated!!

I bought/maintain my sisters website for her business. Recently I had to edit the .htaccess because someone redirect-hacked her mobile site to go to porn. Sometime around when I fixed that, her forums went offline - No idea if the two are linked, wouldnt make sense to me, but her forums no longer work. it automatically switched to a page saying they're down for maintenance.

When i Click kunena in the joomla components to try and fix this, it automatically starts installing Kunena 3.0.5 - even if i dont want it to. This installation fails IMMEDIATELY and gives me absolutely no clue as to why. The top instantly says 'failed!' and the error message below only says:
prepare installation... OK

So im very lost here. same thing happens when trying to install from a URL. Im all up to date... Joomla 3.2.3 - PHP 5.4.2 - MySQL 5.5.3 . The closest thing to any information i can gather, is:

Under joomla extension manager warnings tab:

The PHP temporary directory is not set

The PHP temporary directory is the directory that PHP uses to store an uploaded file before Joomla! can access this file. Whilst the directory not being set isn't always a problem, if you are having issues with manifest files not being detected or uploaded files not being detected, setting this in your php.ini file might fix the issue.

Under other warnins there is:

Database schema version (3.2.3-2014-02-20) does not match CMS version (3.2.3).

Database schema version (in #__schemas): 3.2.3-2014-02-20.
Update version (in #__extensions): 3.2.3.
Database driver: mysqli.
82 database changes were checked successfully.
136 database changes did not alter table structure and were skipped.

If this helps at all, acy mailing starter fails immediately as well, but a couple other things updated ok.

Unfortunately these two issues are not specific to Kunena and involve your server set up and Joomla setup.

"The PHP temporary directory is not set"
You will need to ask your host about this. This is not Joomla temporary directory (used when packages are uploaded), but what PHP uses when uploading a file for temporary storage. This has nothing to do with Kunena and really Joomla.

"Database schema version (3.2.3-2014-02-20) does not match CMS version (3.2.3)."
This is generally not a great sign and I would seriously do a serious audit on your database tables to make sure they are the same or see if you have some corrupted tables. Since you said something about site being hijacked I would make sure your database is also secure when looking at this.

I can only give you those recommendations. We cannot help or give support to problems that are very specific to the host and environment being used. I recommend you to forward any remaining questions to your hosting provider.

I have changed the title to reflect a more appropriate representation of the issue.
