Kunena 7.0.9 & Kunena 6.4.14 – Security Updates Released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.9 [K 7.0.9] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x./6.1.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0

If you are having problems then, for your own benefit, it would save us all a lot of time if you would kindly post your configuration report when you ask for help from this forum. If you do not post your configuration report we will not ask you for it but you will probably not get your problem solved, either.

Merged K 3.0.4: a question about users' real names

The following problems showed up after upgrading to 3.04:

  1. The heading "Topics in Category" now shows up in the h3 color used by the template (blue in my template) -- resulting in blue text on blue background in my Kunena template. In the previous release, the color of this text was white in Kunena even though it was blue in my template. All of the other headings (Section and Category names and descriptions are still white text in Kunena (however, they do not use h3.) I have temporarily resolved this problem by adding "#Kunena h3 { color: #ffffff }" to the end of the template CSS.
  2. A user's real name no longer shows up in profiles. Previously it displayed "Profile for [real name] ([user name])". It now displays "Profile for [user name] ([user name])". When "Display User Name" in Configuration > User Name is set to "No" the profile displays properly with both the real name and user name but the real name also show up in posts.

Thanks,

Jim

I posted a message about 2 defects in the newest version of Kunena in the K 3.0 General Questions forum by mistake. The message "Two problems after 3.04 upgrade" should be moved to this forum (I didn't want to re post it and have it appear twice.)

Thanks,
Jim

You did not post your message in the "wrong" category by mistake. You posted your message in the Kunena 3.0 Support (reporting defects) category, possibly without reading first Rules for posting in K 3.0 Support category . We moved your topic to the general questions category.

The first of your two "problems" is caused by the choice of Joomla template you are using and, as you have discovered, was easily resolved by using a CSS override. These kinds of styling questions - they're not defects - are best posted in the K 3.0 Blue Eagle Templates category. You have already resolved your problem and answered your own question.

The second of your two problems concerns the appearance of users' "real names" on the forum messages they post and within their user profiles. I suggest you read the K 3.0.4 release notes that address this point you raise.

The issue arises with the following configuration setting:

Kunena Forum: Configuration » Users » User Related » Display User Name = No

The behaviour of this setting has changed in K 3.0.4 and is the subject of Github issue #2182 . This second issue is different from the first issue and should be separated from the first issue.

Therefore, this is how I think we should approach this topic:

(1) Your first question has been resolved. I am changing the subject of your original topic from "Two problems after 3.04 upgrade" to "K 3.0.4: a question about users' real names" and I am merging your original topic with this topic.

(2) Let's focus only on the unresolved question you asked. If you have further questions about how to style K 3.0.4 so that it displays better with the Joomls site template you have chosen, please use the K 3.0 General Template Questions category and post your questions there.

It is much easier to create one topic for each problem that you may have. If you create one topic that deals with more than one issue it makes it very difficult to deal with each issue separately. The first of your problems is not a defect (and, as such, did not deserve to be placed in the Kunena 3.0 Support (reporting defects) category) but there's no way for us to separate the two issues into two separate topics.

The second issue may or may not be a "defect". Your second issue is a question about why the user's real name displays on messages posted in the forum where you use the setting that effectively says "show real names of my users when they post messages on the forum". I have a feeling in my bones that's exactly the intention of what the setting (Display User Name = No) is supposed to do ... but I could be wrong.

*** Topics merged ***

I will refer this matter to my colleagues for their opinion and advice as appropriate. I cannot confirm if this is a defect in K 3.0.4 that requires fixing.
