Solved Avatar not showing in topic

I am using Kunena 3.0.6 and having an issue with the appearance of the avatars. It is showing on the profile, in category and topic it only shows a link to the user profile (showing avatars is enabled in backend).

I checked the files in the different folders for resized images, only the folder for size 200 contains avatar images. The others are empty, so there are no thumbs created. All folders have chmod 777, that should not be the problem.

I have tried using Gravatar but that will only show the blue gravatar image and not the uploaded avatar. I noticed also the the Kunena gallery is empty, that should not be, should it?
Does anybody know what causes this?

Go the kunena config - frontend- set Show Avatar on Category Index and Recent Topics to "Yes".
