Email to disabled users was created by rlstephens
Sorry for the basic question, searched everywhere and couldn't find the answer...
Does Kunena send emails to users that are not enabled in Joomla? I have a process to subscribe all users to a topic (for sale), and then will occasionally disable a user in Joomla. I do not typically remember to update topic subscriptions to remove them. So, will they get the email or does Kunena only pull enabled users?
Thanks in advance!

G'day, Rob, and welcome [back] to Kunena.
I am sorry that no-one was able to provide you with the technical solution you wanted to address one of the purposes you are using Kunena, namely as a classified advertising portal, when you enquired about the possibility of "automatically" locking topics if there had been no activity on them after a prescribed period of time. I refer, of course, to your post Lock topics after xx time of inactivity written 2½ years ago. I see that you're taking a different approach: disabling users after a certain period of time. Interesting concept; I'm not quite clear on the details of how you go about doing it but, if it works, I'm pleased to hear you've found a solution.
Getting to the heart of the quetion you have now asked which is "Do disabled user accounts receive email [from Kunena]?" The answer is dependent on a couple of factors.
It's not entirely clear what mechanism you use to "automatically subscribe" users to topics/categories in Kunena. As we all know, there isn't a Kunena feature that achieves this and questions about "automatic subscriptions" are a whole subject on their own - if anyone reading this is interested in how it can be done, I mean. It's also not entirely clear what mechanism you use to "disable" user accounts, either. You wrote that you have a "process ... [that] will then occasionally disable a user in Joomla." Again, it's an interesting idea (and I don't understand the "occasions" when the process is run) but the answer to your question may depend on what this procedure does.
As far as I know, there is no setting in the Joomla User Manager to prevent the sending of mail to specified user accounts. I could be wrong, of course, but I'm only relaying to you my understanding of how Joomla works. If I've overlooked something, I'm sure someone will be quick to point out my error.
The obvious way to prove or disprove the theoretical notion that disabled accounts are not able to receive email - as a result of those accounts being subscribed to forum categories/topics, I mean - is to test this yourself:
That's something you can do for yourself - and to share the findings with the rest of the community - it's something I can do when I have a few "spare" moments or it's something that some other generous member of the community might volunteer to do on behalf of us both.
The short answer to your question is, as far as I know, disabled accounts receive email from your site in the same way as non-disabled accounts.

- create a test account;
- subscribe the account to a category;
- disable the account;
- post a message from a different account into that category;
- check the email on the [disabled] test account to see if something arrived

Did just that, and it appears that disabled users do NOT get the notifications.

Thank you. I learnt something useful from your test.
It would seem that, if you disable a Joomla account - I'm guessing that you just mark the account as "disabled" using the Joomla User Manager (am I right?) - that this stops those accounts from having email generated by Joomla extensions installed on your site; extensions like Kunena, I mean.
Does knowing this resolve your question?
