Hi

Is it possible that a new topic has to be approved by the moderator/administrator first before it goes live?

If so how can this be achieved ... we have in our forum people who create new topics with adverts for shoes etc. We have now set that for new users the administrator has to approve first. But sometimes it is difficult to see based on registration that the person might put "stupid" things on the forum.

Thanks for any feedback

The short answer to your question is yes. K 3.0.3 has the facilities you need to approve new messages before they appear on the forum. The details of how you actually do this may take a bit more time to write than a simple "yes you can do it" answer,

The general points are these:

1) Yes, you can set your forum configuration so that all new members have to enter a CAPTCHA for, say, the first half-a-dozen messages (for example) and then they don't have to jump through those hoops every time the write a new message on your forum. This website at www.kunena.org uses the CAPTCHA-challenge approach to minimise the amount of automatically-generated spam. It seems to help.

2) There are dozens of helpful ideas in the topic How to protect my forum from spam .

3) You can define, on a per-category basis, that all messages in certain categories require moderator approval before the messages are displayed on your forum. Using this approach, however, this is an all-or-nothing solution; everyone's messages must be approved by a moderator or no-one's messages require approval. This approach does not address the situation where you only want to review those accounts that are new and about which you know nothing.

4) Lastly, you can "moderate" new users with a non-zero value in the setting Forum Configuration » Security » Security Settings » Moderate New Users

I hope this helps with your question.
