Question Manual language installation

My site steadfastly refuses to install any language but English. This is despite having two front-end languuges installed: English and German. I've tried re-installing, and de-installing and re-installing from scratch, with both English and then German set as the default front-end language. In all cases Kunena installs only English language files.

Is it possible to download the German language files for Kunena, and manually install them to the language folder, for Kunena to recognise this as an alternative language?

Hello,

What exact kunena and Joomla version are-you using ?

In kunena archive, you will find some language package and you can install it with Joomla extension manager. It's not Kunena which recognize language but Joomla! himself

Thanks for the response. I'm using J 1.5.23 and K 1.6.4.

From my research of the forums, I was under the impression that Kunena comes with multiple language support, and will install the languages that it finds in the Joomla installation. Obviously got that wrong.

What do you mean by the 'kunena archive'? Is this the download file? I've looked there and cannot find any language files. I've also searched this site for language files.

My Joomla is installed with front-end support for both English and German. After I install Kunena, I can see the Kunena component language files in the en-GB language folder, but the equivalent files do not appear in the de-DE folder. I'm assuming that this is the root cause of my problem, and the solution is to install them there.

You are right, if you have the main language definie for Joomla! to german, the german files will be isntalled..

Look closely, in the kunena archive that you had downloaded here, look in archive directory.

Aha! That's exactly the answer I was looking for. Thank you. I have no idea why I could not find the language files there before. Must try harder next time.
