Images attached to posts in our forum are not showing, except for superusers.  The Kunena configuration option in the Upload tab has Show Images for Guests set to Yes, but images are not being shown either to guests or to registered users; they are shown for superusers.  A registered user can see attached images if they use the Reply action; in that case, the attachments appear (as expected) in the copy of the post in the Topic History section below the reply section.  This behaviour was also happening with K6.3.1, and possibly with K6.3.0.  The forum is using the Aurelia template.

We have a forum category "Post Pictures for Help With Identification", so it's really important for us to get this weird problem solved.

Maybe it is because the Kunena version detailed: in the Kunena config settings says "attachmentProtection =1".

Sadly, changing that option does not solve my problem.

But it does seem that is the solution.  The fix I needed to solve the problem for existing posts was to change the value of the "protected" field in the _kunena_attachments table from 1 to 0.  I'm assuming the option which I've now changed will prevent this happening for new posts with image attachments.

It seems to me that the existing documentation for Kunena is sadly lacking.  I've done a lot of searching to try to solve this before posting here, with no success.  There certainly no mention of it in the official documentation on this site; and the search facility within the documentation doesn't appear to work at all.   A mention in the FAQ section of the implications of setting the attachment protection option would be a good idea.  Fortunately, there are people in this forum who do understand how it works.

Thanks,

Rob

This has nothing to do with the configuration of the attachment protection. The attachments should still be displayed for everyone. I have tested it, it is a bug and will add it to our bug list.
You can use Gindi's suggestion as a workaround until the bug is fixed. After that, all attachments should be displayed correctly again.

Hello,

I have just made a change to fix it, you can try this nightly build to test it : update.kunena.org/nightlybuilds/pkg_kune...4-DEV_2024-08-14.zip and update.kunena.org/nightlybuilds/pkg_kune...4-DEV_2024-08-14.zip

Can-you tell please if it better now with that change ?

I don't provide support by PM, because this can be useful for someone else.

Thanks for the fix. It works, but in a way which I was not expecting. It does show attachments, but only to logged-in users; if not, you just see a message that there is an attachment and you must log in to view it.

This is, in my opinion, a good solution to the issue. However, it means that the text on the Uploads tab in the Configuration page is misleading; it fails to mention that setting Protect Attachments to Yes will limit access to attachments to registered users. While it does say "... enable access control ...", I suspect that many (most?) people would fail to realize the immediate effect. I think the most important thing in that text should be that a setting of Yes will limit viewing of attachments to Registered users.

The fact that guests could no longer see the attachments due to this fix was not intentional.
But this bug is fixed in Kunena 6.3.4.
