The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 5.2.8 [K 5.2.8] which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 3.10/3.9.x. Solved Specifc modules for specific forum categories

Maybe this is a feature request more than a general topic.

I am looking to have different modules appear on certain categories in the kunena forum. For example, a sponsor could be displayed on a specific forum category or sub category, and another sponsor have their banners displayed on a different category or sub category.

Is this possible?

If you create menu items for each category in the Kunena menu, you can assign a separate module for each menu item/category (Kunena Menu -> New -> Kunena forum -> Show Category).
To prevent the Kunena menu bar will be too large, you can make these menu items invisible with the option "Display in Menu = No".
