I just installed Kunena 5.0.12 over 4.012 and my customization disappears. I revert to before the upgrade.

What can I do to be sure that I keep the customization on upgrade?

How and where did you do the customizations? Did you change .php files or did you use the Kunena template .css / .less override possibility?

I think I simply put the css in my custom site css

I just see your docs for the overrides, it’s for the avatar, what will be the override for the complete visual ?

You can add custom css via your templates custom css function (if your template supports that) or you can goto
back-end > components > kunena forum > templates
then select (radio bullit) your kunena template and press the button (top bar) [Edit CSS]
in the list of css files there is a custom.css

Every customization you put in here should 'survive' updates as this file is not overwritten during an upgrade.
Not sure if it will respect these changes with the 4.x to 5.x upgrade as this is a majot upgrade. But the you can add the required changes back when upgraded
