The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 5.1.5 [K 5.1.5] which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 3.8.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 5.1 and issues discovered during the development stages of K 5.1. This is a Security release.

as the topic Icon for a category so how do I do that?

I am not surprised (given the lack of useful, understandable, user documentation) that you do not know how to change topic icons and category icons in K 4.0. Indeed, I was in the same situation as you (and I still haven't completely figured out the solution, either).

There are two topics that may shed some light on these issues:
  1. Topic icon folder changes in K 4.0 ; and
  2. Category icon in Kunena 4
