If you are having problems then, for your own benefit, it would save us all a lot of time if you would kindly post your configuration report when you ask for help from this forum. If you do not post your configuration report we will not ask you for it but you will probably not get your problem solved, either.

Question Allow access to subcategories by member request

I have a forum where there are over 4000 users.

We are using the Joomla ACL to allow user groups to access various sub-categories based on the user's region (and the user group is then set per region).

We also have another category with child-categories in it. These are for registered members, but we would like members to be able to request access to any of the sub-categories and access would be automated/manual depending if this is possible.

Does anyone know if this would be possible, please?

I'm sorry, but requests to category accesses are not possible. In principle the user would needed a request for the Joomla user group which have access to this category. You can only add manually the user to the user group who have access to this category.
So is a request only via email or pm possible, but for a request the user would have to know, whether the child category for a certain user group exist, because he can't see it without access.

Thank you for your reply. Ok, so is there no way of doing this at all, even with custom code?

It's a real custom integration which you want. It's more than some codes. For this work you need a developer.
