Sticky How do I change the "default view" of the forum from Recent Topics to Index?

Hello and good afternoon,
I have [strike]two[/strike] questions regarding setting up the forums and getting them to work for us.

1) I have a question regarding the breadcrumbs and the Forum Home. I noticed that on our test site if you click either breadcrumbs (kunenas or joomla's) it takes us to the Recent Topics instead of the forums Index page. I notice that 'index' is not applied to the bredcrumbs (neither Joomlas nor Kunenas) url.

I am sure I missed something. Can you let me know how to fix this? I know it is possible as it is done here as I would like.

[strike]2) Also, I notice that I cannot get the menu item to work correctly. I would like to have the forum menu item to display it as 'active'. (hover and focus work fine).

This topic explains how to change the default view (the forum "home") from "Recent Topics" to a category Index view.

I have removed your second question. We prefer that people ask questions relating to a single subject. If you have a question on a different subject, please use a separate topic for those other questions. As general background, you should read Kunena Menu issues in the Wiki.

I have done these steps as well as read through the wiki several times. I am not new to joomla or to web development. However I also know I might be missing something really simple.

Before I posted, I had tried as both a child menu item and a first level. Both using the "Menu Item Alias" for each, as well as item type for both. Neither seems to have done the trick for me.

I did use the Menu Manager, as well as a second time just now, reset everything, flushed everything.. and still no go. I am at a loss on what to do.
