Kunena 7.0.5 & Kunena 6.4.11 – Security Updates Released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.5 [K 7.0.5] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0.

The Kunena team is also pleased to announce the eleventh version of Kunena 6.4, a native Joomla extension for Joomla! 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 6.0.

If you are having problems then, for your own benefit, it would save us all a lot of time if you would kindly post your configuration report when you ask for help from this forum. If you do not post your configuration report we will not ask you for it but you will probably not get your problem solved, either.

K 2.0 support will cease on 31 August 2013 and this section of the forum will be closed and archived after that time and no further questions will be answered about this version.

when a report comes through to the moderators, it only says who, is there a way to attach the email address of the person who reported it, as there is no way to reply to the person who reported it?

Our moderators need to be able to reply....

Good idea but, I have to tell you, the "report to moderator" feature was not designed for the purposes of allowing the moderators to reply directly. And, besides, if a moderator replies directly to such things, that person - the moderator - then exposes their own email address to the person making the report. There are a few "security" implications involved in realising a solution to this requirement.

With K 2.0, only the site administrator can view a user's email address. That may (or may not be) a good thing but that's the way it currently works.

The "report to moderator" does not have a reply function. The sender of the report is your site (not the email address from the person making the reply) and therefore if you reply to the email then you are not replying to the real sender.

There have been a few times when I would also have liked to have used such a feature. But then I remember that I don't want people to see the email account that I use to receive these notices and I'm please that my inbox is not flooded with nuisance mail from people who think they have a "direct line" to me for their various problems. This was also another reason why we do not have a PM facility on this site. People would abuse that feature and send PMs directly to the moderators instead of posting their questions on the forum.

You can't please everyone. It wouldn't take much to customise your implementation of Kunena but it would almost certainly cost money unless another member of the community was prepared to do this for you for free.

If your moderators need to be able to reply, are you prepared to pay for the cost of giving them the means to do it and are they prepared to wear the cost that, by replying, they're no longer able to retain their total privacy? I think those are the real questions that you need to discuss with your moderation team. Speaking only as a member of the Kunena team, we just have to suck it.

A solution would be to have a PM function. The Moderator could then PM the member. This is how most Forums handle it.

I am looking a the pm aeon uddle, the only issue I have is that in our community (before our forum) there was a lot of underhanded things going on with pm's and want more control over them, like storing all pm's in case an authority wanted a paper trail.

Also, privacy would not be an issue as our moderators all have a domain email account for the site, not there private ones.

I do understand your point though, as most moderators would be using n there personal accounts.

What would be the rough cost for this, do you have any ideas? Just so I know!

Thanks

Scot

Difficult for me to say because I am not a developer. It's my guess that there's only a couple of line changes to make to one file (but which one, I don't know) and it might only take 30 minutes or an hour or less to do this. I'm guessing. Usual rates are around $75 per hour. This is a guess; it is not an estimate or a quotation.

Of course, any custom change made will need to be reapplied every time you upgrade and will be an ongoing maintenance overhead for you. FYI we're expecting two releases of Kunena before the end of this calendar year.
