Kunena 7.0.5 & Kunena 6.4.11 – Security Updates Released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.5 [K 7.0.5] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0.

The Kunena team is also pleased to announce the eleventh version of Kunena 6.4, a native Joomla extension for Joomla! 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 6.0.

If you are having problems then, for your own benefit, it would save us all a lot of time if you would kindly post your configuration report when you ask for help from this forum. If you do not post your configuration report we will not ask you for it but you will probably not get your problem solved, either.

K 2.0 support will cease on 31 August 2013 and this section of the forum will be closed and archived after that time and no further questions will be answered about this version.

*** Topic split (by moderator) from sh404sef 3.6.0.1422 breaks K 2.0 menus ***

I too, appear to be experiencing this problem with my forum.

I am opting to downgrade my site rather than workaround this problem.

Please, Kunena devs, can you release a fix for this problem? This is really important.

Thanks,
-Flaccid

G'day, CaptainFlaccid, and welcome to Kunena.

I am responding to your call to the Kunena development team to fix a problem with sh404SEF. As people should already be aware, the Kunena Project is not affiliated in any way with the developers of sh404SEF. You will see in the category description that appears at the top of this page

This is not a support forum for sh404SEF or its related products. For sh404SEF support you should visit sh404SEF .

The information given in this category is intended to guide users who want to use sh404SEF with Kunena and, mostly, was written by Kunena users. The information here is not necessarily accurate, up-to-date nor is it intended to replace the support given by the developers of sh404SEF.

Aside from what I have just written, I don't have anything further to add here except to wish you every bit of good luck in finding a solution. ;)

Hi, I probably should have been a little more careful when responding to this thread.

I guess my problem is not related to sh404SEF.

In fact, I barely have a clue what that is.

What I can say is this. I'm currently using Joomla v. 2.5.7 and Kunena 2.0.1 | 2012-07-07.

I upgraded the site to Kunena v. 2.0.2 (I Believe)

I have since, restored my site, which means my forum is downgraded to 2.0.1.

I have a button at the top of my site that takes me to the Kunena forum page at this URL " www.galaxypugs.com/forums.html "

However, upon updating Kunena, it began taking me to " www.galaxypugs.com/forum/index.html " and all other pages became a variant of that URL, therefore changing the URL of every single forum post.

To make things a bit weirder, (after updating Kunena) I could still access existing forum posts using the old method " www.galaxypugs.com/forums/whatever.html " ... as well as the new method... but I could no longer access " www.galaxypugs.com/forums.html ".

The reason this is a problem is because I have a suffix on my forum that is necessary for properly styling my forum with CSS. After updating Kunena, it was no longer applying that suffix; therefore, botching my entire page display because the needed CSS was no longer being applied.

I have no idea why this happened, and I don't know what to think. Can you please look into this issue?

Thanks,
-CaptainFlaccid

in effect, CaptainFlaccid, your issues are not at all related to the issues that Spaatz is having and now you want to hijack that person's topic? I do not think this is fair to Spaatz.

I do not know anything about this button that you have created, nor do I know anything about how you are managing SEF URLs on your site. I do not know how Kunena is tied-in with the problems that you seem to be having but the biggest unknown for me is sh404SEF, about which I know nothing.

If you have chose sh404SEF to manage SEO/SEF URLs on your website then I think that you should address you questions to them. If you would prefer, instead, to use native Joomla SEO, that's different.

Please do not hijack another person's topic i it is unrelated to yours. It is better to start your own topic.

Wow. Just, wow.

First of all, I admitted to not reading the topic carefully. I stumbled onto this post via Google search. It was my fault that I did not look at the title of this post, or the category this thread was posted in. My bad. I take full responsibility for that problem, that is solely my fault.

However, your response is VERY mean spirited. I did not intentionally hijack this thread. I came back to respond to your response, in an effort to clarify my situation. This thread is not being hijacked on purpose.

If it seems like I'm making things very redundant, it's because you will obviously need this drilled into your head so that you will understand anything that transpires beyond this point.

I do not know anything about this button that you have created, nor do I know anything about how you are managing SEF URLs on your site.

Then ask! You do not have to tell me you know nothing about my situation. To me, that tells me you're dodging resolving a potential problem caused by a Kunena update.

There you have it. It's a menu item that uses the Kunena Home Page Item Type. This was created using Kunena v2.0.1.

This is what my SEO config looks like in my Joomla Global Configuration:

If you have chose sh404SEF to manage SEO/SEF URLs on your website then I think that you should address you questions to them.

Again, this is going to be REALLY redundant, but I'm sorry, apparently this thread is unrelated to my problem. I am UNINTENTIONALLY hijacking this thread now, because you decided it would be a fitting resolution to claim ignorance and shunt me to another website (which I have now told you repeatedly) has nothing to do with my problem.

Please do not hijack another person's topic i it is unrelated to yours. It is better to start your own topic.

I am more than willing to start a new topic, except your previous response tells me that you don't want to resolve this problem. So, in effect. Yes, this thread has been hijacked. I'm so very sorry.

Is it too late to start things over on the right track?

There is nothing mean-spirited in my approach to forum moderation. Our task, in moderating this forum, is to assist all users equally and fairly. When someone pins a question on another person's topic that relates to a specific subject, we try our best to understand exactly how these issues relate. As background reading, it's worthwhile looking at the article I have the same problem ...

Because your questions seem more about how to properly set up your Kunena menu than anything else, I have split your messages from the original topic and put them into this separate topic which may, or may not, be the best approach I can think of to resolve the matter.

CaptainFlaccid wrote: Is it too late to start things over on the right track?

It's never too late to start over. :)

As long as we don't allow the possibility of issues relating to sh404SEF to interfere with the problem and, in that regard it is my suggestion that you completely disable the effects of sh404SEF to have any involvement with K 2.0.2, I think there is a solution. As I have mentioned before, I don't know anything about sh404SEF and, as far as I know, it may even be possible that sh404SEF simply does not work with K 2.0.2. That's something you might like to verify with the developers of sh404SEF.

If we are discussing only "native" Joomla SEO, here are my suggestions:

(1) Read how to implement Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) . There are, in effect, two parts to successfully implementing SEO: (a) the Global Configuration settings and (b) the .htaccess file. You need both things to make it work properly. The guide in the Wiki should answer those things.

(2) Make sure that your basic Kunena menu works the way that it is supposed to work. The Joomla menu system is probably the most difficult part of Joomla to understand and make work properly. To help people overcome the learning curve, when you install Kunena for the first time, the installation creates a fully-functional menu for you. This is explained in The Kunena Menu .

Of course, the basic menu may not suit everyone and people will attempt changes. Sometimes these changes don't always succeed. We understand that. In some cases it may be a worthwhile idea to abandon making many changes and start over. This is easy to do in K 2.0.2 using the tips we've posted in The Kunena 2.0 Menu forum topic.

(3) The best way to obtain help on the forum is to start by reading the FAQs page. Your configuration report actually contains details of how you've set up your Joomla menu (in relation to Kunena) and there will be clues there.

(4) Make sure that you do not have duplicated menu items. If you want the same named item to appear on your site, remember that Joomla has the alias menu "menu type".

I hope that these tips will assist you. Keep in mind that our job in forum moderation is not necessarily to answer and solve people's problems for them but, rather, to point people to where their problems can be solved by themselves or with the help given by others in the Kunena community. B)
