Kunena 7.0.6 & Kunena 6.4.12 – Security Updates Released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.6 [K 7.0.6] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0.

The Kunena team is also pleased to announce the twelfth version of Kunena 6.4, a native Joomla extension for Joomla! 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 6.0.

If you are having problems then, for your own benefit, it would save us all a lot of time if you would kindly post your configuration report when you ask for help from this forum. If you do not post your configuration report we will not ask you for it but you will probably not get your problem solved, either.

K 2.0 support will cease on 31 August 2013 and this section of the forum will be closed and archived after that time and no further questions will be answered about this version.

Question Does Kunena have backend tools for managing topics (i.e. editing, deleting, moving, etc.)?

OK... complete newbie here, but got Kunena installed with no issues and see no issues in operation, but I can't figure out how I (the admin) can see/edit/delete/etc. topics/posts on the backend. I know it's got to be simple (and I'll feel like a complete dolt when I'm shown how), but I've looked through the forum and can't find a how-to. Forgive my ignorance, but someone point me in the right direction, please.

G'day, markj, and welcome to Kunena.

Thank you for your very good question. There is no such thing as a silly question; good questions deserve good answers.

You do not need to edit, delete or otherwise manage topics on the backend. All the necessary tools to do those things are available to you on the frontend. Therefore, there are no tools to do the things you've enquired about in the backend.

Not to worry, you're not the first person to ask this question and, I've fairly certain, you won't be the last. :)

Thanks for the gentle answer! So... if I understand correctly, I, by virtue of my login being designated an admin/manager of the board, have all those privileges (delete/edit/etc.) for any post from the front end. A login designated as a "Registered" user can post, edit, and delete its own posts, but none other. Have I got it?

That's about right. But I know what it it's like as a new admin. You want to be confident about the differences between what you see and what your members see.
But the answer is very simple. Create a dummy user registered just like a normal member. Login as that peron, and see the world as they see it.

Kiwi's answer is more-or-less what I would have written, too.

In the strictest, most literal sense, however, you have asked several questions that each have different answers. They are:

(1) Ordinary, "registered" users can only post new topics (or, separately configurable, replies only) in those categories that you have allowed them to the post into - on a category-by-category basis;
(2) You may define, on a global basis, whether users may edit their own messages after they have posted them or define a time limit that allows them the opportunity to edit their own messages; and
(3) You may define, on a global basis, whether users may delete their own messages.

You can also assign moderator privileges to other users thereby giving them greater powers.

Therefore, the conclusions you have made are correct but, again in the most literal sense, the answer to the question, "Does Kunena have backend tools for managing topics (i.e. editing, deleting, moving, etc.)?". is no.
