Hello there I am currently migrating Kunena from J 1.5 to J 2.5 ( Kunena 1.5.9 to the latest version 1.7.2 ).

What I first did was copied the tables across from the old site and inserted them into the new db - the old database tables had the prefix jos_fb and I was told somewhere that you need to change the db tables names to be prefixed by _kunena_ so I did this.

with the old tables moved over to the new database I proceeded to install Kunena 1.7.2 via joomla's upload extension installer.

All seemed to go well until moving to Step 6. Finish Installation - this page gives me a Server 500 error...

I am really looking for some advice as to what to do about this - it should be noted that I only copied across the database tables from the old site, not the actual kunena component directories and such.. should I do this also?

Thanks for any help you can give.

See HTTP 500 Internal Server Error in the Wiki.

Please read K 1.6 and K 1.7 Upgrade Guide

Upgrading from K 1.5.9 to K 1.7.2 is easy. Moving your Kunena forum from a J! 1.5 site to another J! 2.5 site is not easy. See Migrate my forum

Thank you very much for the prompt response, just quickly before I have to wade thru all that info - is there an automated update path I can take to achieve upgrading from Kunena 1.5.9 to the latest version 1.7.2 or must I work with the data manually? ie can I go from like 1.59 to 1.6 then to 1.7?

Thanks again, I really appreciate it!

Yes, the K 1.7.2 update/installer automates the process. If you have a K 1.5.9 website, running J! 1.5, then read the upgrade guide I posted in my last message. Read the technical requirements and "read me" documents and make sure that your website meets the minimum specs to run K 1.7.2. After that, you can migrate your J! 1.5 site to J! 2.5.1 if that's what you want to do ... and good luck with that! ;)

No problem! (Off-topic: the animal in my avatar image is a wombat, by the way. The avatar image is an adaptation of road-signs we see along many of our highways in Australia). If people would like to express their appreciation for what we do, there is the Donate button on the site home page or they may prefer, instead, to write an unbiased, objective review in the JED . It all helps. :)
