Communication problem: orphans? was created by Lintzy
I am working on german translation for 1.0.8. But i don't want to translate something, what i don't understand
, the descriptions are explanations, so:
What are Orphans? The feature to split threads make no difference, if i choose
* Link orphans to new topic post
* link orphans to previous post
Does it mean a concept of letterpress like this ?
But what have those to do with a posting? I am really confused about it.
I have found out, with click on split in first post of a thread, i can change the order of postings.
With click on every other post (and first post too), i can split the post in an own thread and a copy of it is left in old thread. If i delete the post (it doesn't matter whether i delete post in new thread or in old thread), it is deleted in both positions.

When you make a new post to a topic, your message will get a parent. It is either the first message (Reply Topic) or the message where you are answering to (Quick Reply, Reply, Quote).
When you delete or split a message (=parent), all it's replies (=children) will become orphans.
All but the very first message must have parent, so when deleting a message, all orphans will get a parent, which is parent of the removed message.
In split you can choose if the children will stay with their grandparent or if go elsewhere together with their parent.
So either you move all replies too, or just that one message.
Yes, you can also move another post to be the first posting of a topic.
And yes, if you leave a shadow message, both of them will be deleted if you delete one of them.
Split and merge are not fully implemented and are not very useful at their current state. You should vote them in here:

That's much to complicated, really . I have understood the meaning, but it does not work. You can not split more than 1 post. If you click on first post in theme/thread, you can choose more than one, but splitting shows no effect.
And if you try to merge splitted posts and to delete, finally it can happen, that you get a wrong article (post) ID. I have to delete it manually in database, now.
And to bring another post to topic is confusing, too: Only the topic is changed, the post is on same position, but in view of splitting mode it can not be chosen.
I think, whole split-feature is unusable.
Thanks for your answer, now i know, what to write in translation, although it has no effect

Did I say that split is currently broken?
You should write this to your documentation: DON'T USE SPLIT!

So is there any documentation out there for how exactly these functions (split, merge, reply, quick reply, reply topic, etc) work? I checked the wiki and it seems like most pages are blank. I'd be glad to help but I can't even understand myself :woohoo:
Here is my dilemma:
I have a category called "Website Discussions" and in that category the forum "Website Feature Requests" and in that forum the topic "Give us your feedback". The topic says "tell us your feature requests for the site". Each time somebody replies to that topic with a specific feature request, I would like to move the reply to its own topic, so that people can comment on just that requested feature. How would I do this?
Thanks! Kunena ROCKS!

The split funtion don't work good. So you should use the merge-funtion. You can merge a post only with another topic. In your case:
Create a new thread with the posted feature of your user and merge his post into this thread. I hope this could help.
