Question User/moderator rights

Hi guys,

Little question is that possible to get one forum where only the moderators can write and view the posts?

I've been able to moderate a forum and give only access in posting to moderators, however normal users (author) can still access it in view. The idea is really to restrict the access to only the moderators.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Little answer: this has been discussed many times recently. The only suggestions I can offer are to lock the topics, move them to a "moderators only" forum category, change the view access on the new category to a specic Joomla user type and give your moderators the same Joomla user attribute. Make sense?

Alternatively, if you only want your moderators to contribute to certain discussions, and you don't have anything to hide from the rest of the users, just lock the topics.

If these suggestions are unsuitable to you, create another website, establish a forum in that, and invite the moderators to be members. Keep out everyone else.

Txs, in fact I'm trying to avoid to give "Editor" rights to my moderators. Actually the "Registered" are normal members and "Author" subscribed members and in these authors some of them are moderators and I need a private forum in view/post only for them.

There is no way in Kunena to give view access to a forum only to moderators? I've been able to do this with posting but everyone in "Author" rights can still read it.

Txs for your assistance, I would see if there is another solution in no possibilities are available.

If I could change the joomla rights of the "Editor" to be similar to "Author" that will be enough for me as I just want to separate to kind of users with the same joomla rights.

Do you know if this is possible in Joomla or which file should be modified?

Txs again

This seems like a case of putting the cart in front of the horse, to me. I wouldn't go fiddling around inside the innards of Joomla in order to solve a Kunena problem ... which isn't that big a problem anyway.

If you have a requirement to have private (one could describe them uncharitably as "secret") discussions with your moderators, away from the prying eyes of your normal members, why try to adapt something that hasn't been designed for that purpose? :S Often (as I've said on several other occasions) the easiest solution is to think laterally and look outside the square. B)

There are many ways you can have private discussions: You can use PMs or e-mail or use another site or alternative technology for your group conferencing needs. I find the telephone is still a great tool.

I suggested earlier, the idea of constructing another website - it could be built in a subdirectory of where you host your main site and you make it a sub-domain - with a separate user database from your main site. It doesn't have to be fancy, but it does create that "distance" (if that's important to you) from your main site's activities.

But before you commit to a technological and potentially costly solution ask yourself if it's really worth the effort. How many people will affected, how much "training" will you have to do and how often will you need to have these private discussions? I'll bet, in the final analysis, the need isn't that strong. Does the convenience of having everything located in one place really justify the effort and the expense? The final decision, of course, is yours.

Undoubtedly, Kunena will be changed in the future to satisfy this requirement. I don't have any need for such features and, I imagine, most websites wouldn't require them either.

Good luck.

Sozz :)

Off Topic:

If you make users as moderators to a forum, they will see it even if they have no permissions to view it. :) That's one way to make a private forum, but the downside is that everyone of them are moderators..

Currently there is no automatic way to make a forum public but writable only by a group.
