Hi,

There have been questions about current levels of performance of Kunena 1.0.x and 1.5.x on a view sites.

Let me start off with saying that we have not even scratched the surface of what can be done to make it run ultra fast. One of our personal sites is running a next generation data model implementation that will come out after the current releases 1.0.9 and 1.5.0a.

Haveing said that I would like to share a use case with the community to help in sizing for various workloads. Every use case will be slightly different but this will give you a good idea how a site with significant traffic (>1M page view per month) will perform on Joomla and Kunena.

For this overview I am providing usage details about two site that are currently hosted on a single server, together with their email, spam protection, firewall and various other packages.

The first site is www.kunena.com

With about 850k page view per month it runs Joomla 1.5.x and JoomSocial. It has quickly become a fairly large and active site.

That translates to about 30k page views per day.

The second site on the shared server is www.starVmax.com

With about 1.3M page views per month and up to 350 posts a day it is also a medium sized forum. It runs on Joomla 1.0.x and Community Builder and leverages sh404SEF on all non forum pages.

As of beginning of March we finished the conversion of both site to Kunena 1.0.8 (now the latest builds of 1.0.9). As you can see in the utilization chart the server is on average 15% busy for both sites combined as massive drop from before when www.starVmax.com was running FB 1.0.5 with sh404SEF.

Together both sites represent about 2M page view per month and some 500 posts per day.

This is by no means the end of our optimization efforts. It is merely an attempt to show the scale of what is possible with the current versions of the software. Our goal is to fit this workload into less than 10% utilization.

Hope this shines some light on questions about Kunena performance.

We love stars on the Joomla Extension Directory . :-)
