Hello

Can anyone point me in the right direction to be able to add an alt tag to the Topic Icons when someone is creating a new topic (as I have done here).

Some users are finding them confusing and when mousing over the images there's no further explanation of what they represent.

I have found the code that call the topic icons in form.php but have no idea how I can modify it to create alt tags.

regards and thanks.

Andrew

This is a really good question! The topic icons are something that originated even before Kunena was known by that name and there has never been an explanation of their purpose.

For instance, what does signify? Well, to be completely honest with you, I don't know what that signifies any more than I know what does, either. I'm happy? The topic is a happy topic? The topic is solved and I'm happy? The topic is a "friendly" one? Who knows?

I suppose there's some kind of universal "meaning" implied in these visual cues ... which is all very well and good if you can actually see them. Without any alt tags, a non-sighted or visually impaired user won't even know that these things exist, let alone what they are supposed to mean. Therefore, quite separately from the confusion that some of your users are experiencing, there are other issues about accessibility that are just as important.

In my opinion, this whole area of topic icons is one that needs to be overhauled. There should be some easier way to edit the icon set, to define how they should be used on your website, to add more or remove some. Because this is the General Talk about Kunena category this isn't the place to solve those questions - if they even can be solved - but it is a good place to put this issue on the development agenda.
