In recent months, Kunena has risen in popularity and we've noticed an increase in misuse of the Kunena name. We love our users but we need to keep in mind that the name Kunena can't be used by just anyone without permission. This is to protect the general public from, well, the general public (or at least the very small section of it that doesn't mind misleading our users). This also means that you are violating the Kunena trademark in registering a domain with the Kunena name in it.
Now, we're not going to rally the SWAT team and break down your door in the middle of the night. Far from it. But we will need to take legal steps if you are abusing the name and misleading users. This is not appropriate from any standpoint. So if you are currently using it, please stop. If you plan on using it, please don't.
The Joomla Project insists you place the following somewhere on your site if you use the Joomla name:
This product [you may substitute your product name] is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Joomla Project. It is not supported or warranted by the Joomla Project or Open Source Matters. The Joomla logo is used under a limited license granted by Open Source Matters the trademark holder in the United States and other countries.
So we recommend the same if you're a Kunena template maker, module developer or create any associated goodies that go with Kunena. Something like:
This product [you may substitute your product name] is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Kunena Project. It is not supported or warranted by the Kunena Project. The Kunena logo is used under a limited license granted by Kunena the trademark holder in the United States and other countries.
Lastly, if you decide to fork Kunena (why the heck would you?

), you must retain the copyright information in the source code. That's how the GPL license works. But you must also find a new name (you can't keep calling it Kunena) because that's how trademark law works. If you can abide by those simple things, you can fork away!
We really appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter. Feel free to ask questions and we'll do our level-best to answer them.
