We have used this forum for our leading community project. We expected that all spammers of the country would come to us. And they did. And now our forum is a closet of PORNO ads because we do not have a simple everybody used BAN and delete all users posts buttons.

I checked the forum and understood that we should use JomSocial block user function. Sorry to say but it is impossible. Our moderators are not admins on the forum and it takes too much time to manage. And it does not have IP block feature and it does not do a lot of what is a MUST fo any forum engine.

I must say that your forum could not be used for popular projects as you do not have moderation tools. And this should be widely and openly stated everywhere.

There is no easy answer to your question. Basically, the issue is as simple as this: if you allow spammers into your website, they'll come and they'll make your life a misery. So, how do you deal with them?

There are probably two basic rules: (1) control the way your users register with your website and (2) control who has access to your forum.

In the first place, controlling user registration has nothing to do with Kunena and it's completely unfair to accuse Kunena of lacking the requisite "moderation" facilities or being inadequate for "popular projects" as you seem to be asserting. Regulating your user registration is something you have to control. It all depends on how much effort you're prepared to put into the process.

There are several tools that might help, such as JomSocial or Community Builder, to assist with the registration process as long as you're prepared to invest the time and the money on the required tool-set. Kunena doesn't do anything with user registration. If you want to know more about user registration (and how to ban users) visit the Joomla! community forum and ask your questions there.

It pays to watch what's going on: use web analysis (there are lots of tools available from the Joomla! extension library ): perhaps something like Joomlawatch , especially for IP blocking, if that's what you want to use it for. There is no substitute for vigilance.

For the second issue that I've mentioned, you should tighten your discussion forum by disallowing anonymous public posts, i.e. only allow posts from registered uses. This is the default Kunena configuration setting . Visit the Kunena documentation site for more information. Delete the offensive posts as soon as you find them - What do you mean Kunena does "not have moderation tools"? I repeat, Kunena does not do anything in respect of user registration, unregistration or banning. IP blocking is not a function of Kunena. Again, vigilance is the watchword. If your site is cluttered with spam then it means your moderators aren't doing their job (deleting the offensive posts as soon as they're detected and reporting the incident to you you) doesn't it? That's a management problem: deal with it!

As for what should or should not "be widely and openly stated everywhere": who knows what that means.

If you were looking for help, I hope I've provided something. If you were looking to complain about Kunena, have a nice day. :)

Your feedback is most welcome.

While there are many more tools available for Joomla, we do realize that our moderation tools require a lot of attention. There is a new moderation class in the works that should help address some of these issues.

Part of it has been a bandwidth issue for Matias and I. Now that we have several new developers on board we truly hope this will become available in the near future.

Have a great New Year!

I will try to explain what you do wrong and what should be immediately fixed.

What real life is:

Only registrated users can write posts. Spamers register on the commnuity manually and post hundreds of spam in the several topics with special software. We do not set time limit in the posts because:

1 Spam Programs detect it and overcome anyway
2 we are interested to have as many spam posts from one user at the short time as possible. Why?

We have a team of moderators who are always there. They are active users and fast detect spamer because of the many posts. At least every 5 minutes someone is there. More posts spamer has - faster he is detected.

In developed systems like phpBB or IPB moderator can ban user and delete ALL spamers posts with one click. Excellent! No more spam. Spamer is blocked. If spam was occasionally done by the regular user than moderator delete ONE post and ban user for some time. There are also warning system that keeps history and if problem persist - user will be baned by IP.

Banning by IP is also very important for troublemakers, not spamers.

What you have on Kunena.

When spamer is detected moderator have to go to JomSocial to block user so hi should have ADMINISTRATOR rights to do that. Afterwords he should return to the forum, find corresponding topic and ONE BY ONE delete spam posts each time being redirected to the root of forum. How about deleting 100 posts? It takes several hours.

No warnings, no history, spamers and violent users are just blocked and hardly manageable.

If Kunena would be the only forum on the planet everything would be OK but guys, its 21st century, it is a MUST to have moderation tools or your FORUM worth of nothing! It is just a big mistake for us that we have used your system without proper test. We trusted you.

What you should have and develop before anything else as a primary task is:

BAN options with time management
Warning with history
Baned users lists with management options
IP Ban for the forum

Please honesty warn community that you do not have that because no one expects it. All other forums have it but not you. You should be honest and not let down the community.

You do not just lets down users, you let down a whole Joomla community because editors decided to give you a first hand. First of all you let down them.
