Question Revenue model for Kunena

I noticed Agora has a interesting revenue model, where they give the core application away but specialized extensions cost money. Why doesn't Kunena try this? I don't think living off donations is going to cut it as most people are just cheap and if they can get something for free and not pay for it they will.
With an extension store I think some of these cheapskates will end up having to buy extensions.
I've honestly been thinking about switching to Agora because it looks like it is being developed faster but still I notice they have quite a lot of bugs... and their forums aren't as easy to navigate and find the functions IMO. But maybe if Kunena developers got some more money we could see quicker results.

We are starting to build something similar, but on top of Kunena 1.6, which will make creating new features and templates a lot easier than in Kunena 1.5.
Agora has been around a lot longer than Kunena. When we decided to take over FireBoard, we had to choose whether to support existing FB users or forget them for half a year and make our own forum software. We also had to ask whether users want security and bug fixes or new features and bugs. We ended to fix over 1000 bugs in many incremental releases. Fixing bugs is a full time job, but now our code base is much more stable than it was in FB and we can spend more time doing real improvements.
Kunena 1.6 will be looking almost the same as Kunena 1.5, but will make development a lot faster and easier. But even if there are not too many visible changes, K1.6 will be over a magnitude faster and more stable than K1.5 has ever been.

What are some examples of paid extensions that are in the works?

Currently we are working hard with K1.6 itself. We need to get the release out before making any extensions to it.
