Hi!

We've been using FireBoard at our site for some years now and tonight, I learned about Kunena.

We're running a huge site (17.000+ users) so I would like to know the main advantages in the upcomming j15 native version, compared to FB ?

Writing this post, it strikes me that I would not have been able to tell that this wasn't FB, so.........what's the "big deal" (not ment to be rude) :)

I believe that there will be big advantage in 1.0.8 already: it should be much more stable.

Next advantage comes in 1.1 -- it is optimized for large forums and it has better search and moderator tools.

J1.5 Native does not bring other advantages than it doesn't need legacy..

Of course bugs will be fixed for every version and there may be other nice features, but they are optional.

PS: There is no big deal, just this announcement: www.bestofjoomla.com/component/option,com_kunena/Itemid,38/

Hi!

Welcome to Kuenna!

We are getting ready to release Kunena 1.0.8 stable within the next couple of days. The release notes will contain a great deal of details what we have fixed, changed and added. I believe many users will like the improvements we have implemented.

To give you a headsup of what is coming you can follow our realtime changelog on the SVN:
joomlacode.org/gf/project/kunena/scmsvn/...ELOG.php&view=markup

Hope this helps!

As you probably know joomla 1.0.x (J1.0) is deprecated. Joomla 1.5.x (J15) have been around for a year now. As a transition J15 have a legacy mode that's enable running components developed from J1.0, but it has its drawbacks (look at it as a temporary fix). To learn more about that go to joomla homepage. The advantages of running Joomla in native mode are many.

As you mention, Kunena looks like Fireboard (FB). This is because Kunena is a fork of FB. It evolve from the codebase of FB. The developers have mention elsewhere in this forum that they will provide template that will distinguish Kunena from FB.
But the main difference between FB and Kunena are not the visual ones, you have to look under the hood of the components to realize that Kunena already have fixed many of the bugs in FB.

Further the development of FB have stopped, and the support forum closed down and you cant expect any update.

Even if Kunena 1.0.7b, and upcoming Kunena 1.0.8 stable are not J15 native they are already greatly improvment over FB.

Ok? Much more stable than .... what? We use 1.0.5rc2 of FB and we've never experienced any unstability?

Next advantage comes in 1.1 -- it is optimized for large forums and it has better search and moderator tools.

And THAT's something we, with 263.000 posts, look forward to :)

Yup, I saw that. It's just that.........I'm trying to sort out the marketing hype like "It's a revolution", "Beyond your wildest dreams" and what else has been posted about Kunena. To me it still looks nothing but a FireBoard........... "revolution" etc. to me means "something new", "new features" etc. .......... or ? When I READ your link and SEE Kunena in action, the promised and delivered seems veeeery far away from each other, right?

Or perhaps you could point out the "revolution" to me? :)

Great - I'll look forward to this - perhaps the "revolution" is in this release, then :)

To me, "revolution" would mean that stuff you would expect from ANY real forum, would be integrated.

Like.........why on EARTH is there still no automatic resize of uploaded pictures and why can users only post one image pr. post - this is rediculous.

And......... polls..............we need polls !
