Question Legacy 1.0 ??? Why do I need to enable this?

Had some problems installing Kunena 1.0.10 on Joom 1.5 w/cb 1.2.1

It told me that the installation had failed, and that I need to enable the legacy plugin in plugin manager.

That got me a little worried, because i then read the readme file (Yes, I know, don't tell me, but I've installed a lot of Fireboards on Joomla 1.0 based systems and since Kunena is a fork I thought it would just go smoothly - Of course I backed up first!)

Anyway, dunno why, but I thought that the error was due to the 30 second time out issue in the php settings for I braced for a restore from backup due to partially completed install - that was not the case.

Then I u/l'd the package up to the server - same error messages! hm... Okay, so why does a 1.5 native version of Kunena w/special integration w/cb 1.2.1 need to run in Legacy mode?

Well I enabled the legacy plugin and did the install again from the local server via blah.blah and Voila! Perfect installation.

Here are my questions:

1.) Okay, so why did this happen?

2.) Why do I need to run in legacy mode?

I was trying to run this particular site legacy free w/only 1.5 native extensions. Well, I might as well go and install all those other kewl things that I was waiting for upgrades to 1.5 native, coz I'm running in legacy mode now LOL!

Anyway, could someone answer those two questions above for me?

Thanks,

Bradley

Hello,

I think that this doc can answer : docs.joomla.org/What_is_%22legacy_mode%22%3F and docs.joomla.org/Why_won%27t_you_legacy_extension_install%3F

Well, thanks, but no that doesn't answer the question at all.

Kunena 1.0.10 is stated as being Joomla 1.5 Native and heavily integrated w/CB 1.2.1 - i.e., it isn't supposed to require Legacy support.

So again, my questions are, Why did I get the install message failure saying I needed to enable the Legacy support Plugin and why did I actually have to enable that Plugin to get Kunena 1.0.10 to install and work?

Again, thank you for taking the time to post those links for me :)

Where does it state it is native? I think on the JED it does but that is most likely for the BETA relase of 1.5. It (1.0.xx) has never been. Even FireBoard was not native and had to have the plugin enabled on J1.5.

We love stars on the Joomla Extension Directory . :-)

I hope the moderators take note of this answer, too.

Nowhere does the release notes state that Kunena 1.0.anything is Joomla 1.5.x native. See docs.kunena.com/index.php/Legacy_mode

I don't know the answer to why you need CB 1.2.1 to make K 1.0.10 work or vice versa if you intend to use Community Builder. The fact that CB 1.2.1 is fully J! 1.5. compatible is an independent fact. The fact is that if you want to use Community Builder with Kunena - that is K 1.0.10 - in a J! 1.5 environment, you need to run in legacy mode ... for Kunena's sake.

Yes, that is where it says it is Joomla 1.5 Native. I've included a screenshot for clarification.

Also, it says that 1.0.10 is the Joomla 1.5 Native component.

Thanks for your help grumblemarc :)
