Question Original post date for newly created topic

I have Kunena discuss set up to create a new thread when a comment is posted. The comment is creating a new topic in the forum as it should except the original posting date is "29 Nov 1999 16:00". This appears to be the date from the article's "start publishing" parameter instead of the "create date " parameter (or even better would be the date of the new topic's creation). I changed the start publishing date in the article however the same "incorrect" date still shows in the original thread post. Is there a way to correct this either for this instance or for future comments on other articles on my site?
