Kunena 6.2.6 released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 6.2.6 [K 6.2.6] which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 4.4.x/5.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.1 / K 6.2 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 6.2

This category is for the plugin developed, endorsed, maintained and supported by the Kunena project team. The topics in this category only relate to the plugin developed for K 1.6 and later versions.

Question Can we enable adding entries in the Discuss Plugin, but Not allow updating in the actual forum, just viewing

I now added the Kunena Discuss facility to a Category, which adds a Topic in the actual Forum. I have set this up and it works brilliantly. The only problem I have is I would like to prevent the logged in user from having the edit, reply or new topic entries in the actual forum, forcing the user to add the comment only on the webpage where the Article is shown via the Kunena Discuss plugin.

Effectively I am using the Forum as a storage mechanism for when the comments are no longer visible on my article webpage.

Personally I cant see how I can do this, but I thought that I would ask, just in case there is a setting that could make this happen - I am using Kunena 1.7.2 and Joomla 2.5.4.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Rob :)

It's possible to prevent users creating new topics; it's possible to prevent users replying to topics. These two things are controlled on a category-by-category basis. It's also possible to prevent users editing their own posts (on a whole-of-forum basis). However, I do not believe it is possible to make the Kunena Discuss plugin to work independently of the Kunena component settings.

Therefore, I'm not sure if this idea (although feasible in a general sense) can work in a practical sense in the way that you have defined the requirement.

Perhaps someone else in the forum has encountered a similar need and has devised a way of solving this matter for you.

Thanks for the reply,
Ok - can we start with preventing people from replying in this forum category only - how is this possible, I can't see an option..
In 1.7.2, I can only see
Locked
Review Posts
Allow Anonymous
By Default post replies as (can only be registered user and anoymous)
Enable Polls

This would certainly help, but none of the above options seem to be capable of doing this?

There are extended features in K 2.0 that control who can post new topics and who can reply to existing topics. However, if you restrict who can reply to topics (when the topic is created by whatever means) then this may counteract the purpose of using Kunena Discuss which is, after all, about giving people the opportunity to "reply".

I think you need to give your idea further consideration and perform a few simple experiments. Alternatively, you can always engage (at your own expense) a Joomla specialist who may be able to devise a niche solution for your needs.

Our recommendation is to look ahead at K 2.0. As you would probably already be aware, K 1.7 is at end-of-life and will cease to be a supported product in a few weeks' time.

Thanks for your reply
I have been subscribing to the forum posts for Kunena 2.0.1 but there seem to be a few too many issues at present to move to it.. I have it in my sandpit region, but I ant to wait a little while before I move it to Test.
Do you know if there is likely to be a K 2.0.2 version - reading between the lines i think it looks like one my be necessary, so I'm holding my breath waiting for a month or so, before considering upgrading to Kunena 2.0.x as I'll go straight to that - I also want to go to Joomla 2.5.6 and there also seem to be conflicts with Kunena 2.0.1 and Joomla 2.5.6?

Back to my problem - I've moved on a bit.
I have installed Write Control for Kunena 2.5.2 (which it says is for 1.7.2 as its included in the Kunena 2.x function - stil need to check this) and this has done alot of what I want - It allows me to remove all but the user edit buttons (for their own post) from the Forum, whilst still allowing the Registered user to post through the Discuss plugin.
I think I am goinf to stick with this until I feel I am able to move to Kunena 2.0.x

You can believe or disbelieve what I'm about to write, but (as someone who has been using vanilla-flavoured, no-frills K 2.0 for the past 4-6 months) there aren't any show-stopping issues. If there had been any show-stoppers, this forum would be a total mess, wouldn't it?

When you also factor-in, in the 3 weeks since K 2.0.0 was released (and was quickly fixed in many ways in K 2.0.1), there have been 27,000 downloads of K 2.0.x, I think this suggests that people are willing to take a bet (about a thousand times a day) that K 2.0 is a worthwhile investment.

I cannot comment on the plugin that you referred to however the functionality that it provides is already natively included in K 2.0.
