I was easily able to install Kunena 1.6 stable zipped package on my local server, but when I try on extension manager on my site (genesis2forum.org) I experience the following:

When trying to import from local computer and install:

* JFolder::create: Path not in open_basedir paths
* Warning! Failed to move file.

When tried to install from url ( joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/12...b3620_2010-10-03.zip ):

JFolder::create: Path not in open_basedir paths

When trying any path on server to install directory:

Please enter a package directory

When trying to install from url to package folder on server ( genesis2forum.org/temp/ ):

* Remote Server connection failed, failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden
* Invalid URL

Thanks for suggestions, Bruce

Your PHP settings are wrong (or way too tight). Please contact your service provider to fix this issue.

joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/12...b3620_2010-10-03.zip

That's the right file but I haven't tried using the URL installation method directly from the site; it might work for you. :unsure:

Yes that is the correct URL to install from.

The JFolder errors you are getting are pointing to a permissions issue. On some servers you have to enable Joomla ftp layer in order to install packages - it all depends on your hosting provider.

You might find this useful: forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=431&t=286792

or google Joomla FTP for more examples.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the help, checking out the FTP configuration. I made a successful install this am - it turned out that I had moved the Joomla! installation into to htdocs root on the server, without changing the logs and tmp path in configuration.php. Oh well, I guess you gotta start somewhere. --Bruce
