I tried to install Kunena 1.6.4. The only reaction was
<site>/index.php?option=com_kunena&view=install&task=run&035408f603bb4e1fd08ccd03bd9c3799=1
and blank screen, nothing seems to happen.Pushing the "BACK" button of my browser shows a kind of uncomplete installation, which in fact doesn't work at all.
My system environment:

Joomla 1.6.3 stable, PHP 5.3.3

Any idea what I can do?

Start again. Please read K 1.6 Installation Guide .

If you still cannot install Kunena, it's probably because your J! 1.6 database tables have been corrupted. Don't worry, it's a fairly common occurrence with J! 1.6 for the database tables to be corrupted because of abortive or half-completed installations of software. I've seen it before and sometimes it takes a half-hour or so to sort out the mess. Another alternative is to restore your site to the backup that you made before you first tried to install Kunena and then try the installation again.

If none of these things work, you may need to consider the possibility of engaging a specialist in database management to sort out the difficulties for you (unless you're prepared to take on that work yourself).

Actually the cause could be about anything..

White page is usually caused by PHP error and looking into web server error log file usually reveals the cause.

Thanks for your advices. In fact, it's working somehow, only Avatars cannot be used (frontend) and the icons within the backend configuration menue are not shown. I'm not going to dig any deaper but just hope that those issues will be gone with J1.7 and K1.6.5

Wishful thinking. I don't know about that. From what I've seen, there doesn't seem to be a fundamental problem involving the installation of K 1.6.4 and J! 1.6.3 ... or J 1.6.4 or J 1.6.5. This can easily be proven if you take a brand new creation of J! 1.6.x, make no changes to it, and then install K 1.6.4. I've done that, several times, and it works flawlessly every time. However, if you start with an unstable Joomla basis, and then install Kunena after that, then you've got a recipe for problems.

I stand by what I wrote earlier.
