Hi,

I would like to ask for some help and advice.

At present I have a forum wich runs kunena 1.5.9 intergrated with community builder (latest release)

What I would like to do is as follows

I am renaming the site new logo , new name and new URL

I would like to run Kunena 1.6.1 without the communiy builder intergration, as I feel the new 1.6.1 offers everything that having community builder offers for my needs.

Q1: How would i transfer my database to the new site to keep the forum topics, threads etc...
Q2: will it be possiable to migrate the community builder user details into Kunena? (social pages birthdays, user name, passwords and avatars etc...)
Q3: I would also like to have something which is slick and simple in design like this site (Is it just a standard joomla template but modified)
Q4: I have been debating for ages to change to another forum app because kunena 1.5.9 is very heavy on the sql quiries and people on the internet say it is not a serious forum app and the fact that it runs in joomla (is that the same with the new Kunena?, I am sure I read that it is a lot lighter on databse quiries)
Q5: will there be any forthcomming plans to intergrate with iphone/android ?

All and any advise would be much appreciated

many thanks
Jay

Jay,

I recommend you get some help from someone that knows MySQL very well. All of that can be done with a few exports and a few queries, but it is nothing for someone without deep database skills.

I would hire someone to do the migration for you. If you don't know mysql well, a complex migration like that can quickly get you into problems with incorrect sql or fail data transfers.

A full site from server to server is one thing, changing and migrating data a long the way makes it more involving.

Even with that it should take less than 8h to perform that migration for you.

Hope this helps!

We love stars on the Joomla Extension Directory . :-)
