Question The Kunena forum could not be installed! Uncaught Exception: Conflicting declarations:

Hello - Im trying to update from kunena 1.5.14 to the newest edition of 1.6 - mainly so the users can upload several pictures at once.

Im trying to migrate the database from the old forum to the new, everything seems good till it has installed mootools 1.2 - the next thing its trying to do just sends loads of NULL and something about UTF8 - Anyone clever enough to tell me what this is caused by ?

I just doublechecked, and I got the version numbers mixed up with the one from my old Joomla - My bad. The version was 1.5.11 - Does this explain anything to you ?

That's better One of the main things that I needed to eliminate was whether you were talking about Kunena or Joomla (there is a J! 1.5.14)

I wrote this earlier today and the highlighted section below might be useful to you.

As you would be aware, if you have been closely following the various discussions over the last couple of months since K 1.6 was first made available to the general public, K 1.6 is substantially different to everything else that has preceded it. It is because of the significant differences in the way it works - in the way that it's been designed to work - that now brings many other issues into play that weren't previously involved. In order to assist you, and others, here's is my quick checklist of things that I would need to look at before I could consider upgrading an existing FB 1.0.5 RC2/K 1.0.x/K 1.5.x website to K 1.6 RC2:

1. Does my server environment meet the minimum technical requirements to run K 1.6?


2. Do I have any "legacy" software? I'm not only talking about software that requires J 1.5 sites to be running in legacy mode , I'm also talking about any add-on that was designed to be run on Fireboard, K 1.0 or K 1.5 like the old "latest posts" module or the discussbot plugin , for example.


3. Do I have any other software integrated with Kunena at the present time, that needs to be updated? If you are using any of Community Builder , Jomsocial , uddeIM then you need to be aware of the need to update your software before you upgrade Kunena. Apparently there are a few issues for users of sh404SEF , too. These are important: that's why we have dedicated categories for issues with these products.


4. K 1.6 is dependent on Mootools 1.2.4. This dependency may cause problems if people are using Joomla site templates that are not "Mootools 1.2-compatible". If you are not sure then you should contact the developers of your site template and ask them the question. If the results of your enquiries (or testing on a test site) show that you will have a Mootools issue with your template then you have a choice to make: stay with the version of Kunena and the Joomla site template that you've got or change the site template in order to move forward.


5. Previous versions of Kunena have been more tolerant of database inconsistencies or, perhaps I should say, in the past you may not have noticed any problems because your database was created the way it was. K 1.6 exposes some of these database issues in ways that none of us could have foreseen. It might be necessary to review your database, it might be necessary to change the database collation method , for example.


6. Last, but not least, there are all the other issues from left-field that no-one (even with the best cystal-ball vision) could possibly have foreseen; these are the "gotchas". For those things there's really only one solution: test K 1.6 on a site that mirrors, exactly, the conditions of your production site so that you avoid the disappointment that a failed upgrade might bring.

Obviously this isn't not a comprehensive checklist but it might help things started started until someone - someone with vastly superior technical insight about Kunena than me - has a better suggestion. Does this help?
