Important Kunena 1.6 menu issue with IE8

I would be curious to know if any real solution has been found to date. I hear you about the issues of IE8 but the fact remains that some users are out there. Writing this off as "too bad you use the wrong browser" is not an acceptable solution to me. For now, I have found a dirty fix where I simply change the name of the menu items to single words. This works, but I don't like it. I also noticed, the issue is that the tabs wont wrap or stack. If you name one of your menu items "areallylongnameforamenuitem" or something of that nature, the rest of the tabs will be pushed to the right outside the frame. Not sure if this helps with a solution, but something I noticed.

Rob

UPDATE: OK, still no idea how to fix this issue, but I stumbled upon another post and realized the issue only occurs when the CB integration plugin "simpleboard" is enabled. This also causes the tabs to be rounded, though I don't know why. I also did not find any reference to moz-border-radius-topright:5px;-moz-border-radius-topleft:5px in any of my 1.6.1 css files. Please help while I have hair left.

Guys,

The discussion is going into several directions at once - adding to the confusion.

IE7 and IE8 do not support CSS3. That is a fact. So no native rounded corners on IE just yet. IE9 will bring some of that.
Yes there is PIE and we are looking at it, but that is for cosmetics.

We are also running IE8 against various of our sites and the tabs all look clean - just no rounded corners. If you install other plugins that try to emulate CSS3 for IE, they can certainly be a root cause for breaking the text.

Nobody is writing off IE. Lets just agree that its the most commonly used browser, at the same time it does not do rounded corners. That should not hinder anything, breaking the text in the tabs is a problem and we need to find the root cause of that. We also know it does not happen on our installs, so there must be something with a plugin that causes that.

FYI Nobody should be running anything simpleboard or fireboard related on a site with Kunena 1.6 - they are not compatible and will break things.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. I should have been more clear in that simpleboard is actually CB's plugin to integrate to Kunena (not named well I would agree) but once active you select what board you are integrating with. Sorry for the confusion and I will wait patiently for a fix or IE9 (I have that in beta now but didn't think to check this issue).

Also, I was not sure this was a rounded corners issue as the code the first user mentioned was not found in my 1.6.1 css files (maybe I did something wrong), and I noticed that the tabs were not wrapping. Thought perhaps something different was happening.

I have also posted on Joomlapolis as I think this is something they should check into as well.

Thanks again,
Rob

I will point this out to our folks at Joomlapolis. This might be a bug in that plugin.

If it is turned off, the tabs works correctly (just without the rounded tabs)?

Yes, you turn that plugin off and everything is ok. When it is on, you can actually see the page first render with square tabs and everything is ok, then is changes to rounded and the second words drop off.

Thanks again, what amazing support. I just tried this forum today (leave it to me to find a bug my first day) and I love it.

You are very welcome!

We will followup with the CB guys to see what could be the root cause of that. Might be something in the CB template that does that.
