Question Size 4 Window Text Issue

Hi Everyone:

When increasing the text size in a posting to Size 4, the text presses right up against the text window's vertical scroll bar and it looks as though there are some hidden text to the right even though there aren't any.

I tried widening the text window in the Admin but this did not add any space around the text. I'd appreciate some suggestions as to how to create space around the text with the slightly larger text. Thanks!

Sincerely,
Howard

To a very large extent, these ill-effects are the consequence of the Joomla site template that you are using. Most of these anomalies in the way that HTML is rendered on your browser are controlled by CSS and most of these CSS issues are under the control of the Joomla site template. Sometimes this is a difficult concept for people to grasp.

Let me make try to make the point this way: the Kunena template is responsible in a very basic way for what happens with the rendering of your forum on your website. Remember that CSS stands for cascading style sheets. Therefore if you have somethng defined in two places, it's the latter definition that takes priority (as a general rule). What's the last definition of CSS on a Joomla website? It's your site template. So, let's say that the rendering of text was defined in the Kunena template. If the site template defines things differently, that's where you need to look.

To understand whether it's your site or Kunena, the easiest way is to see whether the same issue can be reproduced here at www.kunena.org . If the same issue can be repeated here (you can use the Playground for those purposes) then it's more likely to be a Support issue. If the same issue cannot be repeated here then it's more likely to be a problem with your site. If the problem is more likely your site then it's probably a Template and Design issue and that's why I've moved this topic into that category. Do you understand?

The easiest way to resolve such issues it to use Firebug for Firefox (as I'm sure you've seen me write on innumerable occasions). In the event that you cannot get to the nub of the issue yourself, please post the URL of a page that demonstrates the issue. You will need to keep in mind, however, that changing the site CSS (in order to fix a Kunena problem) may have unintended consequences elsewhere on your site.

Sozzled,

Thanks for your detailed explanation. I suspected this to be the case but keep in mind that now my Kunena forum is governed by a specific template that is not the default one used on the site. Therefore, I'm guessing that this template has its very own CSS. Am I right? If so, then modifying it will only affect pages assigned to this template. Correct? I'll do some testing and get back here.

Sincerely,
Howard
