Kunena 6.4.8 Released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 6.4.8 [K 6.4.8] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.0.x/5.1.x/5.2.x/5.3.x/5.4.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 6.4
Important note: Go to the Kunena Dashboard after an upgrade so that the Kunena database tables are also updated. This is particularly necessary for major version jumps so that the table changes are adapted.

Topics that are moved into this category are generally considered to be closed. Users may want to add additional information but these topics should not be resurrected in order to discuss new problems or unrelated matters.

Question Email subscribtion for non-registered users

It's quite easy to to find the subcribe function for registered users that sends them an email when ever there's a reply on their posting. I would like to have the same functionality for anonymous users.

Can anyone please tell me how or direct me to others threads on this?

At this time I have no need for a community and setting up profiles gives unnecessary steps. I'd like to keep things as simple as possible.

I've used the !Joomlecomment-extension for some time. It has this function and it gives me a lot of return visits on my articles. Now i would like the same thing in the forum.

The site is: www.spoergdyrlaegen.dk - sorry it's in danish

I don't really understand the problem. If people have enough time to go to your forum and want to be kept informed, by email, about what happens at your forum, why don't they register at your website?

I imagine that, as a solution to this problem, to put yourself on an email notification list but not register as a member of the site, the "anonymous" user would have to click the "subscribe" button and be prompted for their email address. This also begs the question, how do you unsubscribe when you no longer want to receive emails.

The time it takes to enter the email address, every time you want to subscribe to a topic, could easily be saved if those people simply registered at your site. That's the message I would be trying to sell: join the site and enjoy the privileges of membership (e.g. subscribing to the forum to receive e-mail notifications of new messages).

"So how about it?" you asked. I would say, "This is a custom solution for a custom problem. There's the database design changes, the front-end functionality changes, the unsubscribe feature to be built, testing, several days work. Who's going to pay the bills, etc. while the work is being done? How about those issues?" My recommendation is to encourage your "anonymous" users to become an active part of your web community.

Please read the guidelines (at the top of the page) for posting messages in the Support category. There is no inherent design flaw, fault or defect in Kunena that justifies unpaid support for this kind of request. If you believe that Kunena should provide this kind of feature, we would be happy for you to join the development team to work on this idea. Thank you. B)

Hi Sozzled

Thank you so much for answering. I had no idea it was that big of a deal. I tought it was just adding a line somewere and I just couldn't find it.

The !Joomlacomment-extension works fine with anoymous users, so I thought it was just as easy in Kunena.

Thank you agian for your reply, but please don't turn thes in to a discussions whether a community.

Allowing subscriptions to guests is not as easy as it might seem first. The most important issue is spamming -- this feature can easily be misused by using someone elses email address. It's also hard to make working unsubscribe -- again the feature may be misused..

These issues are probably solvable, but they need very careful planning and testing to be safe.
