Thanks again sozzled. I have now reverted to the standard Joomla .htaccess file and followed the SEO guide as you suggested. I am still not having any luck. What should I set the SEO section in the forum config to?

This is very strange! Have you made any changes to anything in Kunena? It's possible that Kunena did not install 100% (but you haven't given any indication that was the case). It's possible that you've changes some setting in Kunena (but I've never encountered this situation before with a Kunena setting).

Everything points to a server routing issue. What I don't understand is why your URL links have strange characters in them (e.g. exclamation marks) obtained from the topic titles that have exclamation marks)?

But you do have one obvious problem that may (or may not) relate to these issues. You have no Kunena menu. Do what did you do with it?

Please do the following:

(1) Use Joomla Menu Manager
(2) Trash all menu items that relate to "forum" and that relate to Kunena. Every single one of them.
(3) Delete the trash ... everything in the menu trash.
(4) Use the Kunena control panel and use the Create Menu option
(5) Select from the control panel Forum Configuration and use the Default button (top right hand side of the page)
(5) Show us what your site looks like after you have done this.

sozzled, you are a genius! Thanks for persisiting with your help. Your last bit of advice did the trick. Just for others who will potentially rush into the setup and installation without understanding it, take of the following:

- Kunena creates a menu which can be found under Modules BUT it does not allow you to change the position of it which can be confusing.
- DO NOT create a menu item to point to the forum, either as a URL or the component... it will not work!
- INSTEAD, the Kunena forum link is invoked from the Kunena menu. To create this (should be done automatically), set the TYPE of menu to Menu Link and then on the right hand side under basic parameters, scroll down until you find the Kunena menu and select the one you want.

I need to test the .htaccess thing again... I somehow think my existing file will now work.

Thanks again for the great support.
