Hi,

Very "Noob" at this. Just started on my site Oct 1st.

Just loaded my Joomla site (using JSN_Epic_PRO) with Community Builder v 1.2.3 and then Installed Kunena 1.6.1

Works Fine, "Most of the time", But every now and then I get this error msg and a Blank page:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 311296 bytes) in /data/23/2/77/137/2240789/user/2462037/htdocs/modules/mod_cblogin/mod_cblogin.php on line 382

I read a "similar" post somewhere on here that said something to the effect taht maybe too many Plugins were being used?

I just did a fresh Install or Both Kunena & Community Builder and have not added any additional add-on's then what comes with the original packages.

Read somewhere that I can adjust memory in my php.ini file?? Sorry, But I have no idea where that is.

I really Like both CB and Kunena, would LOVE to be able to use them both.

Any Help is Greatly appreciated!
Thank You so much,
Jim

Hello,

You need to increase the php memory limit, to achieve that you follow these steps :

  1. Locate the php.ini file used by your web server. You can use the phpinfo to locate it
  2. Edit the memory_limit parameter in the php.ini file (usually in a section called Resource Limits)
    memory_limit = 32M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (32MB)
  3. Ensure you that your change is actually working. Use phpinfo to verify that your memory actually is what you want it to be.

But in most shared hosting, you don't have access to php.ini, so you need to ask your host if it can do this for you or look for an another host which provide better settings.

I don't provide support by PM, because this can be useful for someone else.

G'day, Jim, and welcome to Kunena. These "out of memory" errors are not my specialty, I'm sorry to say.

Not everyone can change the php.ini file (lives in your server root folder, by the way) because, for most of us running hosted websites, the PHP settings are managed/controlled by the webhost. You have 16 Mb of memory. It should be sufficient for most purposes but, as you surmised, if you're running too many things at once then you'll quickly eat into that 16 Mb.

Choices are:
(1) reduce the amount of software that's running on your website. I had a quick look at your site. It doesn't look too "busy" but your page load times are horrendously slow! There's evidently something playing havoc with Kunena on your site. A third-party SEF product most likely. Are you using a third-party SEF product?

(2) increase the amount of memory. Easier said than done. Most hosted websites don't allow it.

(3) move to a different webhosted environment with more memory allocated (or the ability to choose how much you want). Chances are this still won't fix your problem because of the conflict that's going on between some other components you're using.

For a "noob" you've done a very good job in producing an effective web presence. I'd like to know about the SEF question I asked earlier. Speaking personally, I don't use third-party SEF products, but there are a lot of people who seem to think that they're worth the expense (the monetary outlay and the cost in performance) and the trouble to put them together.

Let's hear back from you.

Thanks to Both Answers!

I am looking for the php.ini as soon as I leave here.

"As far as I know", the only SEF I use is the system SEF plugin that was Installed with JSN_Epic_Pro. (I have not "knowingly" added anything else.)

I am being hosted by Network Solutions, So I'm not sure how helpful they are going to be when I ask them to tweak-up my Memory (provided I don't find the php.ini myself, If I do, I think I can edit that to bring it up to 32M (looks straight forward enough).

Thanks Guys, Really appreciate the Help!

I'll Update if network solutions won't allow any memory adjusting.

If there was some "SEF plugin" installed with the template (I haven't come across this kind of thing before) then I would advise you to rid yourself of the plugin. Your website is badly tuned, performance-wise, and we need to isolate and eliminate the cause of that poor performance. You've got something on your site and only you know what you've added.

Could you inventory all your components, modules, plugins (both enabled and disabled) and could you attach a copy of that inventory in your reply, please? A lot of work, I know, but I don't know what's the probable cause.

Well, the plot thickens. I granted Network Solutions access to look at the problem via a trouble ticket.
They responded with info on creating a php.ini file and putting it in the CGI.bin file at root.(Which I did with the line memory_limit = 32M, problem now is I can NOT log into my site as an admin. It shows an OPENID login, and whne I click on the change back to normal login it still does not accept any of the 3 admin login accounts.
Network Solutions says they did not change anything with the login?
Any ideas on how i can get in to admin, so that i can get that MOD/Plugin/component inventory list?
Sorry to be such a pain guys, your help is greatly appreciated!
