Question Submit on Quick Reply fails

I have a very strange problem reported by only one user.

He typed a reply in the Quick Reply box, then clicked submit, only to have his post disappear completely. He re-typed it, and the same thing happened. He then tried the same reply using "Reply" instead of the 'quick' option, and that worked fine.

I can't reproduce it, and no-one else has reported issues. Does anyone have any ideas what might cause this - bug, user error, coincidence???

The only clue from the user is that his reply included his own style of quote, like < >. I wondered of that might cause some conflict, but I tried it myself with no problem.

Very puzzling and I don't have any suggestions at this time. Can the user employ the "normal" mechanism for posting messages (with the BBcode editing window and tools)? Or is this only confined to one user and the Quick Reply function?

You might suggest to that user to clear his browser cache and see if he can reproduce the symptoms again. Other than that, I'm just guessing. Sorry.

Yes, no problem with the 'normal' reply option. It only happened with Quick Reply.

... is this only confined to one user

Only one has reported, is the best answer I can honestly give.

Hmmm ... maybe it was a fly-by-night kiwi?

You can't reproduce the problem and we can't reproduce it either ... there's nothing more we can do until we get further evidence of the problem, I'm sorry to say.

EDIT: Hold on a moment! Has the user disabled Javascript on their browser? That'll kill the Quick Reply function (and about 99% of their enjoyment of the internet, too)!

That's OK, thanks for thinking about it.

Has the user disabled Javascript on their browser?

'll check, but unlikely. I perhaps should have said, this user is our open-source development project leader (chief code guru) and a professional programmer, so such things are unlikely. But he is (reputed to be) human too ;)
But - the Quick Reply option did work anyway - it only failed AFTER he'd carefully typed his reply and clicked "submit". Presumably without Javascript the window wouldn't even open?

If we ever find a way to replicate the problem I'll come back to it.

I'll have to console myself for now watching Bledisloe cup replays

I have an idea....

You are correct: if the quick reply opens, javascript is working.

If the submit button does not work it would be two things: The site is running an old version of mootools (1.1.x) or you are using a 3rd party SEF component that is messing with the URLs.

We love stars on the Joomla Extension Directory . :-)
