J 1.7, K 1.7, fresh install of both.

With all menu items set up and customized, some visible to guests, some to registered and some to special, everything is going fine. Until randomly, they just go away. And them randomly comes back. Once it happened shortly after i added a new category, once when i edited the description of a category and several times just randomly when using the forum.

I have tried removing the menu and recreated it and with different users. They are only permanently visible if they are set to public.

I'm really starting to get tired of this wizardry. This same issue was around in Kunena about a year ago i remember. Since it presumably was a bug that you fixed then, i sure hope it is this time too and that this isn't just a problem that never gets fixed because the developers can't find any problems and keep telling us to rebuild the menu. Will have to abandon Kunena for something else otherwise and that would suck. This is an acute problem.

Menu problems are always deterministic -- you always get the same results for the same input, unless its caching issue in Joomla itself. Issues with changing menus were mostly problem in Joomla 1.5 if you had conflicting menu items (using the same name). That's not possible in J1.7 anymore as they prevent it from happening.

Removing and recreating menu doesn't usually help (but it does help if the menu is not created in the right way).

There are two possibilities why the menu wanishes:
1) Kunena picks another menu item or no menu item at all -- this can be seen from the URL (this was the issue in J1.5) and enabling debug will reveal the issue
2) If URL (menu item) is right, the only possibility is a bug in Joomla as Kunena calls Joomla menu module to display the menu.

So when the menu disappears, you need to look what happens to the URL.
