I have enabled Guests to read and post messages. When a Guest posts a reply it does not appear in the topic and does not appear in the "replies" count in the "recent topics" display even though it goes into the database. On occasion the post does not go into the database.

If one posts as a registered user or administrator everything works as advertised.

Thanks,
Jerry

What are your settings for, for each of your forum categories:
  • Category Manager » <category> » Settings » Public Access Level
  • Category Manager » <category> » Settings » Include Child Groups
See Sections, Categories, sub-Categories (Part 2) - advanced setup for special groups . I hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply.

I have only 2 categories. A top category and one child category. They are both set to "everyone" and "include child groups".

I was testing the Kunena Board just now as a "Guest" user on the "Front End" of the site. Does it mean anything to you? I am not sure what it means but am investigating.

Please check your Joomla menus: Infinite redirect loop detected in /index.php?option=com_kunena&view=latest&do=latest&func=latest&Itemid=87
Kunena Menu is missing: No navigation was found for menu item /discussion-forums (ItemID=61). See our documentation on how to create customised menus (link).

I noticed before, but did not write anything, about the fact that your K 1.6 configuration report showed that you have two, possibly conflicting, menu itmems pointing to your forum. I had assumed (perhaps wrongly) that while you were waiting for an answer to your original question, you might have looked at the FAQs tab at the top of this page for information about possible other matters that could affect you. It's possible that the two issues you've got are related? I suggest that you look at Kunena menu issues

Hi sozzled,

Thanks for the advice. I am new to Kunena and I did not notice the other issues reported...duh! Anyway after reading your reply, I thoroughly read the information about menu configuration and carefully reconfigured my site as it suggested. Regretfully, my problem remained. Thanks for your suggestion.

Here is the good news. I installed a fresh copy of Joomla 1.5.23 on my local server and installed only Kunena on it. When I ran Kunena on the "fresh install" It worked correctly both with registered users and with guests. I then went through and compared the plug-ins on my live site to the "fresh install" plug-ins. The bottom line is that the "system cache" plug-in is the culprit. If it is enabled it causes the problem I described but only with guest users. The guest user posts a reply but the reply does not immediately show. Sometimes the reply is lost completely and never shows up especially if it is a long message.

This behavior is easy to reproduce.

Thanks so much for your time. I hope this information will be useful to you in helping other Kunena users.

By the way...You all have a great piece of software here and I know that countless hours have been devoted to it. Please tell all who have worked on it, "Thank you" for me. I have searched for but not found a "Donation" link. I know that it is probably right under my nose but right now I am drawing a blank. Please post it for me.

Thanks for everything you all do.

Regards,
Jerry
