Kunena 7.0.5 & Kunena 6.4.11 – Security Updates Released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.5 [K 7.0.5] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0.

The Kunena team is also pleased to announce the eleventh version of Kunena 6.4, a native Joomla extension for Joomla! 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 6.0.

This category is only for reporting defects or problems with Kunena 1.6 test versions with Joomla 1.6. This is NOT a support forum - there is no support for test versions. Users should NOT install K 1.6 alpha or beta test versions on websites with live production data.

Question 1 minute to post a new thread or comment

I have a new site running Joomla 1.6.1 and Kunena 1.6.3, nothing else. I have the problem that on random occasions it takes just over one minute to post anything in the forum. It doesnt happen all the time, it can go smoothly 10 times to post, then it takes one minute for the next 10 posts.

It seems like the forum waits for a timeout (60 secs) before it redirects back to the thread the post was made in. I located a "303" error in the Net tab in firebug but I cant say if that is the culprit or not.

I have now changed the template I used for Kunena (one I downloaded) and right now it seems to work just fine to post. Could the problem be related to the theme? Is there something in a theme that could cause such a problem?

Kunena 1.6.3 isn't technically compatible with Joomla 1.6. And it certainly has not been tested with Joomla 1.6.1 at all. However the upcoming Kunena 1.6.4 vastly improves compatibility (and was tested) with Joomla 1.6.1. There might still be a few lingering issues, but it should provide a vastly superior experience. Hopefully your problem is solved there. Kunena 1.6.4 is due out within a few days.

Xtracted: As we have advised on other occasions, there is currently no substantial support for K 1.6.x on J! 1.6 and that situation will not change until K 1.6 is certified as a native Joomla 1.6 component. This has not yet occurred. This will not occur until the Joomla Extensions Directory lists Kunena as a Joomla 1.6 native extension.

Obviously the work to make K 1.6 integrate better with J! 1.6 cannot succeed without people who are willing to experiment with K 1.6 and J! 1.6 and, as long as people understand the basis on which we welcome these test reports and that people do not have an expectation that each and every problem reported will be fixed, we welcome the reports that people submit to the forum. Without these reports there would be no K 1.6 that works with J! 1.6.

However, as far as the specific problems that may occur with J! 1.6 and K 1.6 are concerned, we do ask that people understand that we are dealing with a largely unknown and untried monster, namely Joomla 1.6, which has not been in existence for a very long time. We are trying to assemble a knowledge base about J! 1.6 issues that is evidence-based, that is a trustworthy source of information for others who are interested in this new development.

Random errors, particularly ones that are difficult to reproduce in a consistent manner, are not very "confidence inspiring". Therefore we need to eliminate as much folklore as possible and subject these test cases to the most rigorous testing possible so that people can have confidence in the future that their forums won't behave in bizarre or unpredictable ways because something wasn't detected early in the testing. Your help in pinpointing the cause of this randomness would be appreciated. To assist in that process, it's best to eliminate everything else that could impact on the forum and to concentrate only on Kunena and Joomla for the time being.

Please look at the technical requirements for K 1.6. This is the best information that we can offer at the present time. If there is anything we can improve in this document, please let us know. Thank you.

Thank you for your reply, I would like to assure you that I am aware that K1.6 is not ready for J1.6. I have chosen to use Kunena for my joomla sites and therefor I would like to help out as much as I can by tracking down bugs and problems and reporting them to the developers.

I am trying to find out actual reasons to why this is happening but I havent been able to reproduce the problem yet, I will provide any useful information that I can find regarding this matter. I just wanted to see if there was anyone who could link this problem to anything more specific so I could get an idea of what to look for or a good way to reproduce the problem..

It seems like the 303 error I mentioned in my first post is the culprit. Some information about 303 can be found here:

www.checkupdown.com/status/E303.html

"If the Web server does not return an alternative URL with the 303 response, then either the Web server sofware itself is defective or the Webmaster has not set up the URL redirection correctly."

It seems like its the redirection after the post that waits for a timeout because if I close down or reload the page right after I click the submit button, the post is there, saved to the database and everything seems fine, its the actual redirection that is the problem.

Gonna see if there is something on the server that fails or if there is a problem in the code..
