Kunena 7.0.6 & Kunena 6.4.12 – Security Updates Released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.6 [K 7.0.6] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0.

The Kunena team is also pleased to announce the twelfth version of Kunena 6.4, a native Joomla extension for Joomla! 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 6.0.

I tried turning on error logging in joomla, but nothing else appeared in the error log. I should see something in the system error log, shouldn't I? And I only have a activate/deactivate setting for debug, not levels... I am using joomla 1.5...

Looks like a suspect K 1.6.4 installation to me. A couple of Kunena add-ons need to be upgraded, too (Kunena Search and Kunena Login). I would suggest re-install K 1.6.4 (see K 1.6 Upgrade Guide for details).

Lots of those debug messages relate to jQuery. That doesn't look too healthy either (probably the site template is part of the cause for those). See Common causes of Mootools (Javascript library) issues and Kunena .

Ultimately, the question of why you are using "legacy mode" is only something you can answer. At some stage, you're going to add something to your system that will conflict with the J! 1.0 software that you're still using and the site will break. This is why I've strongly campaigned for people to remove their dependence on legacy mode and to take precautionary action now, before problems arise later. Those are, of course, decisions that individual users must make in their own way and in their own time.

I reinstalled on top of my installation and I am still having the same issue. Is there a way to back up the current data and remove the kunena install, then reinstall kunena and them restore the data?

There are several backup tools for Joomla. I recommend Akeeba Backup ; it's free and it works.

You can uninistall Kunena and your forum data (messages, configuration settings and other forum settings) will remain intact. You can then re-install Kunena and your forum will be restored. The problem may disappear as a result - well, let's keep our fingers crossed. :)
