In order for us to understand this problem better, it probably depends on your definition of what is a long post and how "long" is the amount of time it takes to build and download the page to your browser. Even with my typing speed of around 65-70 words per minute, to write a 500-word message (without allowing for correcting errors,
italicising,
bolding,
underlining or changing
colour) it would take me about 7 minutes or so to type something that long. Most people can't type that fast and most people also don't write that much, either. So, as I mentioned, it depends on what you mean by a "long" post.
I doubt that merely upgrading from K 1.6.2 to K 1.6.3 is responsible for this abrupt change in performance. What is a more objective measure is to look at the bottom of the page, look at the "time to create page" information and tell us how long it's taking (on average) for
Kunena to build the page(s) that contain(s) you're using as evidence for this claim.
It's more likely that this issue was in evidence before you upgraded from K 1.6.2, but it's also possible that your webserver may not be optimised, either. Just as likely is the possibility that you have introduced some other software on your site at around the same time as you upgraded
Kunena and you are only seeing the problem now for the first time. I don't doubt that you are experiencing performance problems but I think we need to eliminate as many other variables as possible and see if the performance issues can be attributed to
Kunena (in isolation of everything else). I'll leave that to you to conduct your own empirical study.
There is the likelihood, as I indicated earlier, that your performance issues were there before the upgrade. For example, if you are using Joomla without having Mootools loaded (see
If you are having problems with K 1.6, please read this first
for an indication of this issue).
I have not seen this kind of problem before with K 1.6.3 on this website. This website is, however, using K 1.6.4 and there's a slight possibility that K 1.6.4 delivers an improvement with performance, too. You won't know until you upgrade.
There are many reasons why performance issues occur. It could be due to server optimisation, communications problems between your server and where you are viewing the pages, or the complexity of data that you're trying to display. Those are my ideas on the matter (in the absence of any specific details that you may have omitted in your question. I hope this helps.
