Hey

Ive just added Kunena to my joomla site and there are two specific things I want to adjust. Im looking to rename the Thankyou button to 'Link Profile' and also need to know if it is possible to be able to switch off the reply buttons so that others cant reply to a post. Ive been looking through the forum and could not see any other information so if anyone could point me in the right direction Id really appreciate it!

Cheers, Jordan

G'day, Jordanc, and welcome to Kunena.

The "thank you" button is for saying thank you if someone posts a message that people may find useful; it should not be used to offer a link to a Kunena user profile. There are already other links to the Kunena user profile clicking the username or avatar image will do those things.

Can you explain what you mean by switching off the reply buttons so that "others" cannot reply to a post. Who are these "others" and in what specific ways do you want to control access to topics?

Thanks for your prompt reply mate!

Perhaps I didnt explain myself too well, a common trait of mine!

Essentially Im wanting to just add extra customization of Kunena for my site. the reason for renaming the "thank you" button really is just a superficial thing that I would like to do, and would not change the real use of the button. I have seen something on the forum for this, to do with the language file?

In regards to the reply sections, what Im really looking to do is have a section where posts are read only, therefore turning off the reply buttons. So essentially users would only be able to post an original, read others posts, and use the thank you button for posts they like.

I know its a bit of a strange request for a forum, but its part of my final project for uni, which in itself has been a strange experience. Any help you can give me would be great! Hope Ive made myself a little clearer.

I'm sorry, I still don't get it. You want to keep the function of the "Thank You" button but rename it as "Link Profile". That's a bit like, to use a motor car analogy, renaming the brake pedal as the accelerator! Yeah, I suppose you could do that, if that's what you wanted to do, and you could probably do that with the language file(s) .

The other request is a little unusual. You want to have categories where users can post but others cannot reply. There is the facility within Kunena to allow certain types of users to exercise such a role but you could not easily extend that functionality to everyone on a category-by-category basis. I will try to explain.

You can lock categories (doing that makes all topics read-only) and only moderators and administrators have write access. Everyone in those categories has the ability to use the "Thank You" feature (or whatever you've relabelled it as). To implement this across the board you would have to create categories for those users who were going to post read-only messages, lock those categories and assign users as moderators of them. Global moderators (i.e moderators not assigned to individual categories) and site administrators would still be able to post to those locked categories and you cannot disable that function. You could leave a part of your forum unlocked for general discussions. As you will guess, moderators not only have the ability to write messages, they can also delete them, rename them, merge them or split them and move them to other categories anywhere on your forum. As long as you're aware of these other privileges, the idea could be made to work.

It involves a bit of administration on you part but it's feasible.

Haha yeah I like your analogy, its does seem a little crazy doesnt it?

Thanks a lot sozzled for your help! The info you have given me is exactly what I needed. The main thing was to know for sure if these things could be done, now its just a case of deciding whether it is feasible and realistic. So thanks again mate, and good work with Kunena, Im a fan!
