Kunena 7.0.4 Released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.4 [K 7.0.4] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0

When you want to upgrade to K 1.6.3 then you upgrade to K 1.6.3. There is no "an outdated version of Kunena was automatically detected and the software will automatically update itself" feature. If that was the question you are asking then, sorry, the answer is no.

If you were asking "When I choose to upgrade to K 1.6.3, does the upgrade automatically keep everything that have and I don't need to do anything else" then the answer is yes.

If you were asking, "Do the latest versions of Kunena automatically remind me that an upgrade is available for me to choose to install at some appropriate time?" then the answer to that question is yes.

However it's difficult to understand what, exactly, you mean by the word the word "automatic".
